Midknight Review will have a more comprehensive opinion about this nominee, or whoever Mr. Obama selects. For now, the talking heads peg Kagan as the "front runner."
Here is a NY Times article about Kagan. Understand that the point of this post is only to offer our prediction and a brief introduction to Elena Kagan. Keep in mind, that the Obama nominee, whoever that might be, will mirror his concerns for defeating laws such as the recent Citizens United decision, allowing his enemies in the corporate world to fund political objections to his candidacy -- political Corporate speech is now "protected" speech. Further, no one who is even marginally "anti-abortionist" will not get the time of day from this president.
Here is that Times article:
Elena Kagan is the first woman to hold the position of solicitor general. She was considered a leading candidate to replace Supreme Court Justice David A. Souter, but President Obama eventually selected Sonia Sotomayor. She is now considered a leading contender to replace Justice John Paul Stevens, who will retire in the summer of 2010.
As solicitor general, Ms. Kagan supervises appellate litigation involving the federal government and presents the government's views to the Supreme Court.
She presented her sixth argument to the Supreme Court in the spring of 2010. She bantered easily with the justices, and she seemed to have a special rapport with Justice Antonin Scalia.
Ms. Kagan appears popular with the justices, and they seem to appreciate her candor, quick mind and informal style. But she tangles regularly with Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., who has emerged as her primary antagonist, frequently criticizing her tactical decisions and trying to corner her at oral arguments.
