In a Reuters [the European equivalent of the Associated Press] article, we have this:
KARACHI/BEIJING (Reuters) – Pakistan said on Thursday it was unlikely a Pakistani-American arrested over a failed plot to bomb New York's Times Square had acted alone.
Investigations in Pakistan had uncovered possible links between the suspect, Faisal Shahzad, 30, the Pakistani Taliban and a Kashmiri Islamist group, officials and news reports said. "According to the available information he says it was his individual act," Interior Minister Rehman Malik told Reuters in an interview in Beijing. "I would not tend to believe that." The Pakistani Taliban Sunday claimed responsibility for Saturday's attempted car bomb attack, but New York police said they had no evidence to support the claim. Taliban spokesman Azam Tariq Thursday denied links with Shahzad.
What seems clear to this editor is the fact that more than one entity involved in either the crime or its investigation is busy covering their backside -- with both hands.
Mayor Bloomberg actually thought it possible that this was the work of a healthcare protester when the healthcare protest has been 100% violence free. In Obama's brief speech of two days ago, he did not mention "Muslim" or "jihadist" in his statement. As recent as this morning, Administration minions want us to believe that this is the work of a lone nut.
Understand that absolutely nothing that this young man has said while in custody other than confessing to the attempted bombing has proven to be true. Nothing. Further, to take solace in the notion that he is not a part of a larger jihadist cell is to miss the point of the current phase in radical Islam's war against the rest of the world in general and America in specific. If young Muslims can train in Yemen or Somalia or Pakistan or Afghanistan or Syria or Egypt or Saudi Arabia, travel to the U.S., become naturalized citizens and function in all respects as if they were alone in their angst against America, all the better for radical Islam. Single cell opposition is most difficult to define or detect and these young Muslims can become naturalized citizens in two years or less. Make no mistake, there are larger cells of radicalized Muslims in this country but we should experience no relief when some "act alone." That does not mean they do not support the murderous agenda of their fellow Muslim radicals.
Stephen Yates, a secret service expert, told FoxNews that it is entirely possible that the two explosive devises of recent months - the Christmas Day bomb and the Times Square car bomb -- were never intended to actually work. Whether that is an accurate view or not, it is safe to say that extremist Islam will see these two attempts as immensely successful. It is safe to say that there is a pronounced leaning curve exists for these radicals. Too bad such is not the case for our "Commander in Chief." --- jds.
