Editor's notes: It is not required in the sense that a law is being broken AND the Republicans missed budget deadlines in the past. Having made these admissions, we are reporting that Congress is about to skip an April 15 deadline for writing next year's budget. The "fiscal year" for the Feds runs from October 1 to September 30. The coming mid-term elections are in November. With this decision, the Socialist Democrat Party os refusing to offer their budget proposal in time for the coming elections. i itt was not proper for the GOP to do this and it is improper for the Democrats, as well. There is a differnce between the omission of the GOP and the modern day Dems -- the GOP did not fail in meeting this deadline in the past with a view of confusing the electorate. This strategy is only a Socialist Democrat maneuver. Obviously, their budget is so far out of "whack" that a stated budget, printed in black and white, would be nothing but a campaign issue for the GOP and the larger Conservative Movement.
Democrat leaders only say that the budget "is on a list of things to do." There is talk, as implied above, that the Libs have no intentions of offering a budget before the November 2 mid-term elections.
Such a decision dovetails Obama's "Debt Commission" strategy that requires this commission to report its results in December. Those who follow such things know that this Commission will be proposing tax assessment on just about everything that does not breathe. That news cannot be made a campaign issue, according to Democrat election strategists, thus the post election reporting date.
Politco gives us these summary remarks: Congress has failed to adopt a final budget four times in the past 35 years — for fiscal years 1999, 2003, 2005 and 2007 — according to a recent Congressional Research Service report. If the House does not pass a first version of the budget resolution, it will be the first time since the implementation of the 1974 Budget Act, which governs the modern congressional budgeting process.
The practical consequences of failing to produce a federal budget for next year are about the same as they are for a family that doesn’t set a plan for income and spending: Congress doesn’t need a budget to tax or spend, but enforcing discipline is harder without one. And, like a family that misses out on efficiencies because it hasn’t taken a hard look at its finances, Congress can’t use reconciliation rules to cut the deficit if the House and the Senate don’t adopt the same budget.
Is there anyone out there in Lala Land who thinks the Dems can avoid "the budget" from being a major campaign issue? In fact, this omission is a de facto admission of their abject failure at being responsible stewards of our tax dollars.
And blaming Bush will not work this time around. A ten year projection of Bush versus Obama is the reason why. If we were to project out the Bush spending for ten years, we would not have more than 4 trillion in accumulated debt including the expense of both wars. Such represents 3 times the total debt of all previous Presidents since George Washington combined. Terrible, terrible, terrible.
Obama, by comparison, currently is on tract to accumulate a ten year debt of 26.4 trillion. Terrible ? Not really. "Criminal" is the word that comes to mind. Understand that this Administration is literally sitting on an economic powders keg. It has increased our national debt to such a radical degree as to require either the repeal of these various spending laws or the increase of taxes at virtually every level of our socio/political life and to such an extent as to control all aspects of American life . Still think these people are not enemies of the United States as we know it ? -----jds
