If life, itself, was not an insoluble dialectic, an amazing and involved paradox if you will , it would be fully predictable and in that predictability, we would have no hope. We hope because we do not know. And, as Christian, our "knowing" is based in faith. We believe so that we may "know." Understand that there is no apologetic for faith and hope. There is no argument that proves either to be substantive. But there is more: "God" is at the top of that unprovable list. If you cannot assume His existence, then you are left with no choice but to assume the comprehensive nature of your own authority. You, my dear sad pathetic friend, are an existentialist !! Good luck with that.
At 68, I have lived long enough to be convinced that I am on the right track. I, and many of my friends, have helped hundreds of confused "existentialists" climb out of their self-willed confusion and given them hope and love. The funny thing is this: if you give an existentialist money, she doesn't know she is a moron. Life is "good." But put that same person in a godless community, living on the side of the road with next to nothing for clothing and no hope of every seeing a change, and what do you have? That meth addict, full of sores and rotting teeth, she cannot handle this thing I call "existentialism," she cannot handle being alone, being her own authority. And, if you are an existentialist, you have absolutely nothing to offer her except your failed wisdom. Today, as many of us prepare to attend a church, somewhere, just know that there are those who are confused and alone, apart from their God, while others have no clue they are alone nor do they care. Whatever.
