Defense Department spokesman Cmdr. Bill Speaks said the
department was not involved in the decision to remove the statistics. AFCENT (Air Force Central Command) did not respond to a request for comment by press time.
The data removal coincided with increased scrutiny on RPA
policy caused by President Barack Obama’s nomination of John Brennan to head
the CIA. Brennan faced opposition in the Senate over the use of RPAs and his
defense of their legality in his role as Obama’s deputy national security
adviser.
On Feb. 20, two days before the metadata indicates the
scrubbed files were created, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., sent a letter to Brennan
saying that he would filibuster the nomination over concerns about using RPA
strikes inside the U.S., a threat he carried out for over 12 hours on March 6
(Brennan was confirmed the next day).
That same day, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., told a crowd in
South Carolina that strikes by American RPAs have killed 4,700 people.
“Sometimes you hit innocent people, and I hate that, but
we’re at war, and we’ve taken out some very senior members of al-Qaida,” Graham
was quoted by the Patch website as saying.
Editor's notes: in summary, we learn that the military has scrubbed all references to the death count by drone in the Afghan War Theater. This occurred just two days after Senator Rand Paul sent a letter to John Brennan announcing his opposition to some of the strategies in the Obama drone war. making it clear to those of us who can handle the truth, that the Administration was preparing a cover-up as relates to the number of incidental deaths in the Afghan/Pakistan drone war. The last numbers I read spoke of 46 al Qaeda leaders killed and 4500 "neighbors" to these bombings, also killed, as "collateral" damage.
Of course, in the beginning of this Obama bombing strategy, Barry tried to assure the critics that no innocents would be killed under his drone strategy, only enemy combatants. Of course, with the first strike, his words have proven to be, yet, another lie and now, we will not know the total of innocents killed, going forward. But no big deal; Lindsey Graham has assured us that this war and the deaths of innocents is to be expected. Apparently this military moralist is fine with killing 100 people to get one al-Qaeda dead guy.
Because this Administration no longer captures and interrogates, we now know less about the group and their immedicate and short term plans, than in 2000.
