There are some reports that have Romney opposing the repeal of ObamaCare. Here are Mitt's words on that subject. Read 'em and weep.

A Campaign Begins Today [Mitt Romney]

America has just witnessed an unconscionable abuse of power. President Obama has betrayed his oath to the nation — rather than bringing us together, ushering in a new kind of politics, and rising above raw partisanship, he has succumbed to the lowest denominator of incumbent power: justifying the means by extolling the ends. He promised better; we deserved better.

He calls his accomplishment “historic” — in this he is correct, although not for the reason he intends. Rather, it is an historic usurpation of the legislative process — he unleashed the nuclear option, enlisted not a single Republican vote in either chamber, bribed reluctant members of his own party, paid-off his union backers, scapegoated insurers, and justified his act with patently fraudulent accounting. What Barack Obama has ushered into the American political landscape is not good for our country; in the words of an ancient maxim, “what starts twisted, ends twisted.”

His health-care bill is unhealthy for America. It raises taxes, slashes the more private side of Medicare, installs price controls, and puts a new federal bureaucracy in charge of health care. It will create a new entitlement even as the ones we already have are bankrupt. For these reasons and more, the act should be repealed. That campaign begins today.

Editor's notes: Well, that sounds simple enough and rather encouraging. Look, no matter how Romney couches "RomneyCare," it is proving to be a disaster for the State of Massachusetts. So, apparently he learned his lesson, right? Ehhhhh, not exactly. A young man named Kavon Nikrad (not to be confused with Pretty Boy Kevin), took the time ask Romney a question at his recent book signing. Here was that brief exchange:

I was one of the first in line to the book signing, and when my turn came I asked Gov. Romney if I could ask him a question. After he told me that this was OK, I posed the following question to him:

You have stated your intention to spearhead the effort to repeal the ‘worst aspects’ of Obamacare, does this include the repeal of the individual mandate and pre-existing exclusion?

The Governor’s answer:

No.

Gov. Romney went on to explain that he does not wish to repeal these aspects because of the deleterious effect it would have on those with pre-existing conditions in obtaining health insurance.

Read it and weep, we say. Why? Mostly because this does not surprise this editor. Midknight Review is not enthusiastic about Romney. We will support him if he makes it through the primaries but we are thinking we need new faces and a fresh look for the GOP. We are done with the Rino's who exist in districts that offer opportunity for them to be gone. McCain can be replaced with a true conservative. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe cannot (at this time -- hey, they are from Maine, folks). Of late, Susan Collins has been nothing short of wonderful in her stance on financial issues. Seriously.

Any who - it is a fact that Romney switched positions on a number of issues including abortion during his '08 campaign. Great. Good to have him on the right side but, was this just a political repentance ?? We worry a bit about Romney -- or anyone with good hair.
