We have gone from Red Channels to Rules for Radicals in just 50 years. Here is a Wikipedia summary of the 1950's push-back to the advancement or perceived advancement of Russian style Communism. In this post, Midknight Review makes the charge that a new McCarthyism has been instituted by the Obama/Pelosi Administration and is as detrimental to free political objection as anything Senator Joseph McCarthy ever thought to foster.

More of the editor's opinion: understand that "communism" in 1950 was new to the general public, fear being a result of Russian imperialism that had resulted in the take-over of several East European States such as Georgia, Poland, East Germany and Czechoslovakia.
Senator McCarthy was absolutely correct in his opinion that the Communist world had taken the United States into their sights. He was mistaken, however, in assuming the takeover would come from outside forces such as Russia or that internal socialist/Marxists influences could be silenced via legislation and/or an overt anti-Communist push back. As a result, his righteous fight against a repressive form of national governance was ultimately defeated and defeated in such a way as to give the Marxist influences within this country the opportunity to argue that they did not exist!!
Bill Ayers, a friend of Mr. Obama and an admitted Marxist terrorist, has in this day and time, 50 years after Joe McCarthy, become part of the new and respectable face of the Socialist/Marxist influence in this country. Midknight Review is based in California. In a news release this morning, it was announced that Bill Ayers is an invited guest of the University of California at Fresno. He represents the changing face of McCarthyism. What we call "the New Face of McCarthyism" is nothing short of a class of leaders tying to do what Joe McCarthy could not do - silence the opposition. Where McCarthy went wrong was in his open and up front assault on the enemy. His tactics were abrupt, harsh and easily identifiable. This thing we call the New McCarthyism was none of these things . . . . . . . . . . . . . . until Obama, that is. His assault is proving to be untimely for the very reason that it is so "in your face."
It became clear to this editor that Obama had become the first President of this country to "call out" his detractors and organize against them in his September 9 , 2009 speech to a joint session of Congress. In that speech, the "Marxist/Socialist" Obama came out of the closet, hung his coat on the back of the Presidential chair, and began an overt move to "fundamentally transform" our country, even against our will !!!
In 2010, it has become clear that the Statists and Marxist Left has decided to mount a concerted effort at silencing the objections of those who would their free speech rights the historicity of traditional Constitutional values.
Look at what has been happen:
1. From Politics and Law we have this: The U.S. Justice Department has abruptly abandoned what had become a high-profile court fight to read Yahoo users' e-mail messages without obtaining a search warrant first. Our questions are these: why did the Obama DOJ move in this direction to begin with? Secondly, if had not become a public issue, would Obama's DOJ continue its unconstitutional effort in this regard?
2. Here in California, we know that "gay marriage" is more about freedom of speech than it is about the gay issue of marriage. Understand that with existing hate speech laws here in California, if "gay marriage" becomes the legal definition of marriage, it will be a crime to speak out against same - ala Canadian law. Again, the Marxist Left is trying to demonize and silence all those who oppose their views.
3. The "fairness doctrine" is an overt and frontal assault on Constitutional free speech. And it appears to be a failed effort for the Marxist/Moderates who exists in both parties. First attempts to institutionalize the misnamed "fairness doctrine" in the effort to demonize and silence conservative talk radio, proved to be such a hot issue in 2009, that the Obama/Pelosi Administration decided to temporarily table the effort, hoping to accomplish their agenda via FCC regulation. Fortunately for freedom loving Americans, the D.C. Court of Appeal recently shot down the Marxist/Moderates plan to use FCC regulation to silence opposition.
4. He actually campaigned on silencing the opposition. This campaign speech segment tells it all. Understand that after he became "President," he has used closed door thuggery tactics, threatening bankers, CEO's. shareholders and protesting businesses and doing so with no intentions of changing tactics. Turns out, this video gives us an Obama that is more a tyrant than his own words might have indicated.
And with these words, we have the beginnings of the New McCarthyism - an effort by the Radicalized Left to silence any and all opposition. Conservatives are not just fighting for Constitutional liberties, they are fighting for the very life of this nation. We may have engaged the enemy too late in the day. Time will tell.
