US soccer star. She has a name, but I don't care. |
I understand that Millennials know nothing about the history of this country or national politics, and, their Gen X parents don't really care. I am a Boomer and the divide is a generational matter. That being said, I will have a voice in the debate to my last day. This is one of those occasions. Apparently, supporting American International Soccer is no longer about American Pride, but Gay pride. I will be rooting for one of my least-like countries, Germany, just to make a statement.
First of all, it's 'women's' soccer, not 'girls.' And, 20 nations on a growing list now support gay marriage. It is the law of our land. Respect it or leave.
ReplyDeleteDrop dead. I was here first.
DeleteNo, actually the Native Americans that where killed during the Christian Manifest Destiny were here first.
Delete"Manifest Destiny" was more the product of President James Polk than any other single individual. Haters of America love to criticize the doctrine of Manifest Destiny as they pretend that this bit of imperialism was a matter of national consent. The reader should know that Manifest Destiny was not the product of anyone in the 13 colonies (the stripes on our flag are represent each of the 13 colonies). The doctrine was used (mostly by the Democrats of that time) to move from the Mississippi and possess all the lands between there and the Oregon Territories.
DeleteFrederick Merk (1963) has a great book dealing with the subject: Manifest Destiny and Mission in American History, published by the Harvard Press. Merk evidences that the overwhelming majority of Americans had no acquisitive urge for a continent ..Another word for Manifest Destiny was "continentalism." As tragic a national pursuit as was slavery . . . . . and guess which national party pushed the idea? The Democrats !!! Hitler was a "Christian." That does not mean that Christianity fostered any of his political idea. Dido "manifest destiny." Heck, every one was a "Christian" back in the day.
In his book (p215) Merk writes: "From the outset Manifest Destiny—vast in program, in its sense of continentalism—was slight in support. It lacked national, sectional, or party following commensurate with its magnitude. The reason was it did not reflect the national spirit. The thesis that it embodied nationalism, found in much historical writing, is backed by little real supporting evidence."
"American Exceptionalism" is tied to "Manifest Destiny." but, A.E lays the foundation for pushing Representative Democracy in the world and is not a form of imperialism. M.F. is imperialism, and is a perversion of the intended doctrine of "American Exceptionalism."
DeleteUnderstand that the United States was and is a one time only, grand experiment that demands time and legislative attention for its development. No country in this world has made a free spirited democracy the basis and central doctrine of its existence. None.
For losers like "Anonymous," above, to disparage our history and development as a nation on the premise that we are an evil nation, is to ignore the national context of every other nation in this world, at the time of our Revolution. People like Anonymous are roaches who feed off our failures as a nation. He and others like him, have no sense of originality and would have never formatted a federalist system as we have today. Marx, Lenin, Mao, and other repressive world leaders are honored by many (not all) on the Left. Obama is the first president to employee people who are openly disciples of Mao (Anita Dunn bragged about her mentor) and Obama's first Green Czar, Van Jones, was an admitted card carrying communists for 10 years. . Valerie Jarrett was born in Iran (although she is an American citizen) and her immediate family (father, grandfather) were communists according to the FBI. Atheists (his mother), communists and radicals are more involved as influences in the life of B Obama than any national leader of his ilk that we have ever had. A great article on this can be found here: http://www.westernjournalism.com/just-radical-people-influenced-barack-hussein-obama/
