In verbal conflict, I believe that Obama measures success was trying to get Obama to “look away.” It is part of what an alpha male does. Romney did not accommodate Obama for single second. At one point in the debate, Obama attempted to interrupt Romney. Romney's response was, "You'll get your turn. Right now, I am not finished" (or words to that effect). Obama continued his interruption at which time Romney said, "That wasn't a question. It was a statement." You cannot get more assertive, more alpha, than that.
