Trump is not the first President to be appear to be conciliatory with Putin

Nothing Trump has said goes beyond either of the two following statements and associated diplomatic efforts:

GW Bush:  I looked into the eyes of Putin and . . .  saw his soul.

Barack Obama:  Tell Putin I will be more flexible after the [2012] elections.

Understand that there are two efforts going on,  as regards Russia  (or  China, or, N Korea or whoever)  and they are
the Presidential effort and the Administrative effort.  You should know that the Trump Administration has been harder on the Putin Administration than any previous American Administration.  The military standing against Russia has been increased,  as is the case with sanctions.  As far as this editor is concerned,  what Trump tries,  diplomatically,  one thing as long as what he does Administratively is solid and in place , and,  such is the case.
