The last
time Lerner was before the House committee investigating the IRS targeting
scandal, she claimed the 5th, but not before making several
statements as to her innocence. In making those comments, she
inadvertently surrendered her right to protections offered in that amendment.
She has been recalled. If she refuses to answer (and she cannot take the 5th, this time), she will be
charged with at least one count of contempt resulting in a huge legal bill and
years of litigation for this [subversive] woman.
Understand that under
her supervision, every conservative group seeking tax exemption,
was targeted by the IRS. We know this because the new and incoming
head of the IRS admitted such, just a week ago.
Lerner has
her back against the wall. Rather than litigating her demands, it
seems more than prudent to grant her the immunity she is demanding. If
this is the course of action, expect to see and hear the worst of this
Administrations strategy as to election politics and the targeting of those
groups who opposed Obama's continuation as "president."
Embattled IRS official Lois Lerner will not testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee unless she’s given immunity from prosecution, her lawyer told POLITICO Tuesday.
“They can obtain her testimony tomorrow by doing it the easy way … immunity,” William W. Taylor III said in a phone interview. “That’s the way to resolve all of this.”
The comments reflect the hard-line approach Lerner, the former head of the IRS division that scrutinized conservative groups, and her legal team are taking in defending her role in the agency’s scandal.
