From Fox News: The Obama
administration is looking to transfer a detainee who is being held overseas and
is said to have “blood on his hands” to the U.S. for a military trial, sources
close to the military commission process tell Fox News.
The move could be a test case for bringing detainees
captured overseas to America for military commissions. It comes as the
administration claims to be reining in its drone program, which critics say
amounts to a kill program — with top terrorists rarely being captured for
interrogation or trial.
Sources say the detainee in this case is a relatively new
capture, who has “no taint associated with interrogations” that could
complicate a military proceeding inside the U.S. The detainee would likely be
prosecuted on war crimes charges.
The administration has already moved to prosecute some
alleged terrorists captured overseas in federal court. But Fox News is told
that prosecuting this detainee in federal court was deemed unlikely based on
the available evidence.
The identification of the detainee came after a fact-finding
team traveled overseas. Sources told Fox News the team’s destination was
believed to be Afghanistan where detainees, described as EST’s (enduring
security threats), are being held.
Editor’s notes: I don’t
know when we started calling these people “detainees,” but it really is a ridiculous term. Remember the good old days when we called
them “enemy combatants” or, better
yet, “prisoners of war?” Now,
they are just “detainees,” as if
their journey through life has been put on hold for time, detained by the Evil Satanic Empire.
Anyway,
more to the point is this, when we combine the Fox wording, ". . . . . . top terrorists [are] rarely being captured for interrogation . . . " with the phrase " . . . . . no taint associated with interrogations . . . ," we realize that Obama considers it more important to either kill these people outright, or put them into the Federal trials system rather than interrogate them for the purpose of saving the lives our troops, overseas, or of learning what these evil morons are planning for the future.
More than this, we understand that Federal trial has
never been a process for the overseas detainee, in spite of the fact that
Obama and Eric [With]Hold keep telling us of all the hundreds of cases
successfully tried in civilian court.
Mirandizing battlefield combatants, if you can
believe that, is a component of the Obama "war" on terror.
Warning the enemy that he will be provided a lawyer and should not talk without
a lawyer present, is hardly the way to win a war; it certainly is no way to begin an “interrogation.”
Obama is in for a rude awakening if he thinks a battlefield
capture, will ever be convicted in a civilian court. Guaranteed,
the first time he tries this, and the "detainee" is freed
"on a technicality," that will be the end to this Utopian
fantasy and his party, at the next
election reckoning.
So I say, "Bring it on." Bring
one of these killers into the Federal system and see what happens . . . .
to you and your party.
