After being one of his biggest allies in 2008, MTV says "no" to the Novice.

In a stunning turn around, MTV — the network that hosted the youth oriented “A Conversation With President Obama“ — has apparently refused to help Obama get reconnected with America's youth. Remember "Rock the Vote?" Well, that was another of MTV's near famous efforts in the '08 campaign. What I am saying here, is that the network has no reason to refuse Obama on the grounds of network policy, but that is exactly what MTV is doing. "We do not get involved in politics" is the reason reportedly given to the Obama people.

Obama's support with the 18 to 30 year old demographic has fallen from 86% to 44% in recent months. High education is no cheaper for the college aged youth and unemployment is running high, something that will not change in the near future, even if there is a marked upturn in the national economic picture.

The youth vote was one of three primary demographics, along with Hispanics and Blacks, that helped to propel Obama into the presidency. He has lost major support in all three demographics. Of course, Independents are a fourth demographic, but Obama, for the time being, has given up on any direct campaign to recover this support.

Point of post: Obama continues to experience a downward spiral that could spell the end of his presidency. Time will tell, but there is no longer any doubt as to the uphill nature of his re-election effort.
