In his opening response, Obama stressed that the federal Government, his government, is and has been in charge from the first days of the Gulf crisis. He brought up regulations dating back to the Bush days and did so twice, trying to deflect the obvious criticisms implicit in the questions of the press corp. Chip Reid (NBC News), in asking about the "cozy relationships" between oil and government got this response: "There is no evidence that the corruption under the Bush administration occurred after I took office." Are we to believe that the "corruption" under Bush ceased simply because Obama came to power? That is the effect of what he said. He does not refer to the award for safety given to BP or the continuing practice of approving construction without viable inspections DURING HIS ADMINISTRATION.
During the press conference, Obama fully contradicted the criticism of those citizens in the Gulf region, citizens qualified to offer critical analysis, citizens such as Governor Bobby Jindal, fully informed and qualified to make decisions about the coast line of his state. It is obvious that Obama has fully undercut Jindal's authority as governor. In so doing, Hussein O has inadvertently taken on full responsibility for the increasing eco-disaster this oil spill has become.
"We are years off and technological breakthroughs away from moving into a green economy" - Obama. Finally, a moment of truth. The fact is this: green jobs are a full decade in the future. What is devastating in this reality is the realization that his present green-jobs policies are destroying the traditional job market even before green jobs are created to replace those lost jobs.
He claims to not know about Birnbaum's resignation/firing (MMS head) while stating that he is in full control of the crisis and has been from day one. Incredible.
"The easily assessable oil has already been sucked out of the ground" is a statement made by Obama in full denial of the physical penalties inherent in radical environment regulations requiring deep water drilling 40 to 100 miles off our coasts. The failed well at the center of national attention is located 48 miles off coast. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-La) made statements early this morning, before the news conference, on FoxNews, that there remain oil drilling opportunities in shallow waters (1000 deep) and on shore sites.
He made it clear that the 1,200 National Guard troops being sent to the Southern borders are not there to enforce illegal immigration laws -- we add "Federal" immigration laws -- rather, to deal with drug intervention and prosecutions. In other words, he has no intentions of supporting Federal law, much less Arizona law.
At one point, he declared that he did not support boycotts or "not boycotts." After all, he is the "President" of the country - or so he made note.
He was not asked about Sestak until last question, Major Garret from FoxNews. He promised that we would be hearing an official statement on this matter soon, "and I do mean soon." Thanks, Mr O, after 3 months of non-disclosure -- all we can say, "It's about time." Understand that we are left wondering why the silence, the stone walling, the outright lies? Why take 3 months or more (depending upon what "soon" mean) to come up with some sort of explanation. The reason for the delay? Obama and company have committed a felony in making its offer to Sestak. Before a response, they absolutely have to figure out what to say in view a future investigation -- an investigation that will surely come to pass. He is nothing but a Chicago politician, a thug in an empty suit, pretending to be an "administrator." see you in court, O - man !!

At 9:45 this morning, Mr. Obama has scheduled his third major press conference since taking office and the first conference since July --- the infamous "the cops acted stupidly" fiasco. Why now? In a word . . . . "BP." Expect Obama to come out swinging. He will shy away from a declaration of victory with regard to the well-head plug. First reports, put out by the Minion Media, gave the impression that the plugging effort had worked. The LA Times was the first to put out this story -- early this morning. Since then, Bloomberg and others have backed off this report. Obama cannot afford to declare "victory" if, in fact, the possibility exists that the plug did not work. People will be fired, tough talk will abound and a lengthy summary of all that has and will be done will be a part of Obama's opening statement. He will cite the hundreds of scientists who are working on this problem -- that will be his link to the disaster; that will be his reason for claiming victory.
Expect him to refuse all off-shore drilling. You must know that Obama was never in favor of off-shoring drilling. This gives him all the excuse he needs to shut down increases in the flow of domestic crude, in his quest of green job technology.
Sestak is a problem. He will not spend much time on this issue except to make it clear that Sestak's claim is not the case.
He will brag about the end of the recession in spite of the stated facts reported over the past several days: 5 million mortgage failures are expected this year; 460,000 new unemployment claims were made this week -- 470,000 last week. Unemployment benefit percentages are at 9.9% . He will appeal to rising manufactured totals, the stock market being in recovery, the consumer index, 3% growth in GDP and his make-believe "2 million jobs created or saved" number. In fact, that number has been out there for several months. Expect him to increase that fantasy number to 2.2 -2.5 million jobs when his own site, Recovery.gov, reports only 681,226 jobs created since February 17 of 2009 and the signing of the so-called Stimulus bill.
Whatever the details, we will see a serious, tough talking, novice administrator with nothing new to say except for the promise of more spending. Talk, talk, talk -- the one thing he does best.

ABC News gives us a story that is simply not going away / Who promised Sestak what? Was he offered a position if he refused to run against Specter?
In a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder today, all seven Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee "urge the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate Congressman Joe Sestak's claim that a White House official offered him a job to induce him to exit the Pennsylvania Senate primary race against Senator Arlen Specter."
The seven – Sens. Jeff Sessions of Alabama, Orrin Hatch of Utah, Chuck Grassley of Iowa, Jon Kyl or Arizona, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, John Cornyn of Texas and Tom Coburn of Oklahoma – allege that the offer would appear to violate federal criminal laws, including 18 U.S.C. 600, which prohibits promising a government position “as consideration, favor, or reward for any political activity” or “in connection with any primary election or political convention or caucus held to select candidates for any political office.”
Rep. Sestak, D-Penn., who defeated Specter in the primary last week, told Comcast’s Larry Kane in February that the White House had offered him a position in exchange for not challenging Specter. White House senior adviser David Axelrod said on Monday that White House lawyers had looked into it and judged everything “perfectly appropriate.”
CNN’s John King suggested to Axelrod that such a job offer “marches up into the gray area, perhaps into the red area of a felony. It is a felony to induce somebody by offering them a job.”
“If such things happened they would constitute a serious breach of the law,” Axelrod told CNN, “and when the allegations were looked into there is no evidence of such a thing"
That was not enough for the Republican Senators, who wrote to Holder that they “do not believe the Department of Justice can properly defer to White House lawyers to investigate a matter that could involve ‘a serious breach of the law.’ The White House cannot possibly manage an internal investigation of potential criminal misconduct while simultaneously crafting a public narrative to rebut the claim that misconduct occurred.”
Even his Democrat supporters see Obama's failings in the Gulf oil crisis.

It was a small bit of payback for the enormous amount of attention some conservatives (and the media) paid to the is-the-president-really-from-America controversy. Editor's note: tongue in cheek or not, pay back or not - Midknight Review has this to say to the new Representative from Hawaii; tell the toothless Barney Frank, "I will show you my birth certificate if Obama will personally show his." Midknight Review stays away from this controversy except to support those who drive the debate. Our only contribution to this issue is to suggest that Obama actually show the birth certificate rather than continue to avoid the issue. We do not believe it unreasonable to ask for actual proof of birth -- something that no one has done, contrary to popular belief. For the first time in his stint as "president," Obama has hit a new low. What is effecting his negative numbers? The growing realization that he has not been personally involved in the Gulf oil spill is one area of concern. The increasing displeasure with the healthcare bill -- a full 63% of Americans now want this bill repealed. There is the matter of our national security. It is becoming apparent to even his supporters that Hussein O has no clue when it comes to Iran, N Korea, the military build up going on in Venezuela, the increasing off-shore threat of the Russians in Cuban waters and homeland security. He continues to hide the emails of the Fort Hood assassin and for no good reason. And then there is the little matter of jobs ------ there are none. According to Recovery.gov, Obama's own site, the stimulus has created only 682,226 jobs in the face of more than 4 million jobs lost since Obama took office and 8 million jobs lost during the tenure of the recession.Understand that if BP does not succeed with the "top kill" method of plugging off the leak scheduled for today or tomorrow, that broken well-head will spew oil until August or later. While Obama cannot be charged with the well's failure, he certainly is in charge of the National Guard and has the power to waive environmental regulations that stand in the way of keeping the oil from polluting the shoreline of the Gulf coast and the inlets to the vast coastline wetlands. He is doing nothing in this regard -- nothing. Heck, after 36 days, it was just this morning that the Feds approved of the "top kill" plan to plug off the well-head.
It is interesting to this editor that, with the passage of time, the leader we so desperately need is nowhere to be found -- only a wannabe intellectual whose very policies are bringing this country down.
His solution for the Gulf oil crisis? To shout out, as he boards an airplane on his way to a fundraiser, "Plug the damn hole. " He does not get it. This crisis is much bigger than the "damn hole." The coastline and the marsh lands are in danger of being permanently destroyed. If the "top kill" plan does not work, this will put Katrina in the shade and Obama will curse the day he laughed and lied about Bush in the Katrina event. In fact, it may be too late to reel back in the effects of this crisis and Obama will have to live with that reality.

Editor's notes: Obama met with the GOP leadership on Tuesday for only the second time since becoming top Novice. Let that sink in just a bit Obama mets with the opposition for the second since assuming his throne. With all the commotion of last year, all the angst, all the political divide of last year, Hussein O met with the GOP leadership just one time, last year. No president, absolutely no president in modern history is guilty of such partisanship. One meeting last year and, gee thanks o great one, one meeting this year -- six months into the legislative season.
And the outcome? In view of the "predictive" fact that there will be no follow-up meetings, the outcome of this meeting has only one consequence: yesterday's meeting with Hussein O is of no consequence whatsoever. With his growing disdain for the press, Obama was not able to even garner a decent photo-op out of the circumstance. In fact, yesterday, Obama press spokesman, Robert Gibbs, took the press into the west wing of our White House and chided them from asking too many questions about BP.

President Barack Obama battled with Senate Republicans in a tense closed-door meeting Tuesday, facing tough criticism from his GOP adversaries — including John McCain — on issues ranging from health care to border security.
"Senators and other sources inside the meeting described the gathering as “testy” and “direct” — and Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) accused Obama of acting two-faced by asking for GOP support on regulatory reform only to push forward with a bill supported mainly by Democrats. Others felt that the meeting may have made already tense relations between the two parties even worse.
"The more he talked, the more he got upset," Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) said. “He needs to take a valium before he comes in and talks to Republicans and just calm down, and don’t take anything so seriously. If you disagree with someone, it doesn’t mean you’re attacking their motives — and he takes it that way and tends then to lecture and then gets upset.”

"During the meeting, which lasted roughly an hour and 20 minutes, sources said Corker broached the issue of Wall Street reform, Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) spoke about the administration's response to the BP oil spill, Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) discussed health care reform and Sen. Li ndsey Graham (R-S.C.) spoke on a variety of issues.
In one of the most heated exchanges of the lunch, Corker accused Obama of acting “duplicitous” in his calls for bipartisanship, saying that he was trying to cut a deal on regulatory reform only to see the rug pulled out from underneath him. At one point, Corker said Obama was using lunch with Republicans as a “prop.”
"I told him I thought there was a degree of audacity in him even showing up today after what had happened with financial regulation," Corker told reporters after Republicans met with Obama."
