White House Data Debunk Myth Bush Cuts Built Deficit

 Posted
While President Obama insists the Bush tax cuts caused the recession and record deficits, his own economists say otherwise.
He might want to consult their data for the truth.
Kicking off fiscal cliff negotiations last month, Obama said: "What I'm not going to do is extend Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest 2% that we can't afford and, according to economists, will have the least positive impact on our economy."
During the White House press conference, he added, "If we're going to be serious about deficit reduction, we've got to do it in a balanced way."
Obama argued voters made it clear in the election that they don't want to go back to Republican policies that "cost" the Treasury revenues and "blew up the deficit," as he told them repeatedly during the campaign.
The Washington media by and large share these assumptions. And they're driving the debate over what to do about the federal budget crisis before Jan. 1, when the tax cuts and spending programs are set to expire.
But the assumptions are faulty, based largely on political demagoguery rather than hard numbers — including ones certified by Obama's own fiscal policy advisers and bean counters in the White House.
Turn to Pages 411-413 of his 2012 Economic Report of the President, published by the Council of Economic Advisers. They show that "the math," as Obama is wont to say, in fact does add up for tax cuts.
After President Bush in late May 2003 signed the largest tax cut since President Reagan — including dropping the top marginal rate to 35% from 39.6% — government receipts from individual income taxes rose from $793.7 billion to a peak of $1.16 trillion in 2007, when the mortgage crisis began, a 47% jump.
Stronger economic growth expanded the tax base and brought in so much revenue that Bush more than halved the deficit over that period. The budget gap plunged to $160.7 billion from $377.6 billion, according to the president's report.
Perhaps the most impressive statistic appears on Page 412, one that undercuts Obama's core argument against continuing the Bush tax cuts.
The post-tax-cut surge in economic growth and tax revenues helped drive down the deficit from 3.5% of gross domestic product in 2004 to 2.6% in 2005, to 1.9% in 2006 and to a manageable 1.2% in 2007.
Based on Bush fiscal policies, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office projected budget deficits of 0.7% to 1.5% of GDP for the years 2008 through 2011. The CBO even predicted surpluses for the subsequent years through 2018.

Obama determined to destroy the GOP according to GOP Congressional leadership. Always remember, what goes around, comes around.

From The Hill:  Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said he believes the primary goal of President Obama’s second term is to “annihilate the Republican Party.”

“Given what we heard yesterday about the president’s vision for his second term, it’s pretty clear to me that he knows he can’t do any of that as long as the House is controlled by Republicans,” Boehner said in a speech Tuesday to The Ripon Society. “So we’re expecting over the next 22 months to be the focus of this administration as they attempt to annihilate the Republican Party.

“And let me just tell you, I do believe that is their goal — to just shove us into the dustbin of history.”

Boehner’s remarks referred to Obama’s inaugural address. Republicans were hopeful the president would use that speech to lay the groundwork for a partnership over the next four years, but he instead made it a rallying cry for an active federal government — including on such politically charged issues as climate change, gun control, gay marriage and immigration.

The Republican leader ripped the president for not taking the country’s deficits seriously, and said the failure of the "fiscal cliff" talks last year reflected the president's refusal to face facts on the budget.

“In our meetings before Christmas, the president was so tired of me talking about when we were going to deal with an entitlement crisis that he looked at me and said: ‘Boehner, we don’t have a spending problem. We have a  healthcare problem.’ It gives you some idea of the challenge that we’re facing,” Boehner said.  <<<  read the full article at The Hill.

Editor’s notes:  understand that Obama has increased the national debt 60% “all by his lonesome.”  He is on pace to double it,  before his time is finished,  in 2016.  In light of that fact,  to argue that “we don’t have a spending problem”  is more than stupid.  He is averaging a 1.2 trillion dollar deficit, each year.  The Bush baseline for deficit spending was 440 billion.  It would take Bush spending habits,  three years to match what Obama over-spends in a single year.  That is how quickly we are headed for the proverbial “cliff,”  and this increase in spending, is all on Obama.

Understand that "shutting down the government" is not the same thing as "defaulting on our debt," not even close.

We collect 60% of the money we need to get all the things the dreamers in Washington want to do.  The point being,  we have enough money to pay the intestest on our debt  --  a thing called "servicing our debt."  If Obama decides not to service the debt and trys to blame it on the GOP,  well,  shame on the media.  What to do with the revenues coming in on a daily basis,  is all up to Obama and his Treasury Department.  That is the way things work under the Constitution.   We have enough funding in hand to pay our Vets, the interest on our debt, our Senors and a number of other concerns.

"Shutting down the government" is a very specific term.  It includes sending some federal employees, home, and closing individual federal agencies for a time,  but,  it does not include the notion of debt default.  For Obama to state otherwise,  is a blatant lie,  used by Obama to pass blame to the GOP and introduce fear into the discussion.  It is a bullying tactic,  used by the Chief Community Organizer,  plain and simple.

Obama then:
"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a Sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. ...Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that 'the buck stops here'. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and Grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."
SENATOR BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA, MARCH 2006

On other occasions,  he, also,  categorized the continuing conflict over raising the debt ceiling as "unpatriotic."

Obama now,  posits a totally opposite position,  as politics dictate:
“Not to raise the debt ceiling would be irresponsible.”  --  Jan 14, 2013.

If the buck stops "here,"  now is the time for that.  Because others have used the same verbiage,  makes no difference at all.  Ten wrongs do not make a "right."
