Mission Statement: This blog reviews the news of the day in light of 242 years of American history. "Nationalism," a modern day pejorative, has been our country's politic throughout history, until 2008. Obama changed that narrative. Trump is seeking a return to our historical roots. Midknight Review supports this return to normality.

"Hit the Road, Barack" and the Rasmussen Reports - how are the two related?
You can click on the Rasmussens
Report link to view his entire daily history. You will note the
remarkable consistency of this day by day register. We can only
conclude that the American people made up their collective mind years
ago. Most disturbing for Obama, is the fact that his combine of zealots
measured with the "Strongly Approve" survey fell from 45% on election
day to 24% today, and as been in the 23 to 28 quadrant for more than
two years. Understand that this measurement is of those who actually work
for Obama throughout the year and during election time(s). This total is nearly half of what it was during his historic run in 2008 . . . . . .
very bad news for the Slickster.

If my observation is correct, this election will be a
devastating loss for Obama, Americans, having lost faith long ago,
have been waiting for this election for years. The first sign of a
monumental 2012 loss was the 2010 elections. The observer makes a mistake to
separate the two elections.
Obama leads Romney by two points in the latest Rasmussen tracking poll.
Update to the chart below. Obama's 2 point lead
evaporated into another tie with the Governor. Shucks !!
With yesterday's chart (August 6), Obama has jumped to a 2 point lead over Romney. It is clear that since the beginning of April, however, Romney has been "up" on Obama with far more frequency than in the converse. This editor believes that if Romney is to break away from Obama, that will not begin to take shape until after the GOP convention (the end of August) and Romney's announcement as to his VP choice.
Certainly, the October debates will play a huge role in the coming election. I predict the three presidential debates to be the most watched in American history. Understand that while interest in this election is high, 94% of the electorate has already made up its mind.
When
tracking the president’s job approval on a daily basis, people sometimes get so
caught up in the day-to-day fluctuations that they miss the bigger picture. To
look at the longer-term trends, Rasmussen Reports compiles the numbers on a
full-month basis. For the full month of July, the president's Total Job Approval
Rating held steady at 47%. Since August of 2009, the president’s first summer
in office, his full-month approval rating has stayed between 44% and 49% every
single month.
For all of 2010, 2011, and 2012, the president’s full-month Job
Approval rating has been at 47% - Scott Rasmussen
More importantly to this editor is the fact that Obama's "strongly approve" numbers have remained half of what they were at the time of his election - a nominal 26%, down from 46% at the time his historic inauguration. It is believed that this number is a measure of the enthusiasm level for B. Obama.
When 78% of the population does not believe Obama governs with the consent of the people, maybe its time for the man to start packing.
22% Believe Government Has Consent of Governed
Democrats are happier with the status quo than Republicans and voters not affiliated with either of the major parties when it comes to the current Congress and the federal government.
One of the central tenets of the Declaration of Independence is that governments derive “their just powers from the consent of the governed.” Only 22% of the nation’s likely voters believe the government today has such consent.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds a wide partisan gap on the question. Democrats are evenly divided as to whether or not the government has the consent needed for legitimacy. Only eight percent (8%) Republicans and 21% of unaffiliated voters believe it does. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on June 15-16, 2012 Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
