The problem with "Democracy" is this: there is no place for minorities.

The rule has always been:  The Presidential election is decided in the Electoral College.

Why an electoral college?  To make certain that a voting regional cabal,  existing in 8 to10 of our largest cities,  does not have the ability to rule the country.

Don't like that?  For your information,  all other governmental elections,  national and local,  are decided by popular vote.   That is enough.  The popular vote controls all of the Senate and each of the 435.  It controls the PTA leadership,  all Union leadership and on and on.

We are a voting nation and our votes are related to territory;  i.e. the nation is divided into 435 congressional districts (House of Representatives) of equal population;  in the Senate,  the nation is divided into states with two Senators per state,  regardles of how large or small the state.  In other words,  Rhode Island has as much representation in the Senate as does California,  New York or Texas.

Understand that there are 435 congressional districts in the nation,   and,  2 Senators per state.  The Presidential Election,  is the only national election in this country. Because it is "natonal,"  the Founders decided on an electoral college made up of all congressional districts and State senators  . . . .   435 + 100 ,  or 535 electoral votes.  270 votes is the nominal majority of 535.  First candidate to 270 is declared the winner.  Trump won 306 votes in the College while Hillary was busy winning just 235 electoral votes.

If the Senate and House are representative of the people's will,  then the Electoral College is representative for the same reason(s).  As an example,  California has 55 electoral votes,  one each for its 53 congressional districts and 2 for its Senators.

To get ride of the Electoral College means that 10 to 15 cities in the US will elect our Presidents, choose all our Federal Court judges including the Supreme court and hold a totalitarian reign over the country.  Not fair.
