Adam Gopnik / New Yorker:
The Democrats and the Seesaw of Identity Politics
Update: Identity politics is nothing short of a pejorative branding as a strategy to convince others that your opponent is what he may or may not appear to be. Nazi, racist, inept, confused, narcissist and on and on, may be simple observations, but when these are used over and over again, to the exclusion of supportive facts and/or other criticisms, the result is the use of "identity politics."
Hillary Clinton's most pronounced rhetorical strategy was the branding of Trump as "unfit for office," "temperamental," "unhinged and unpredictable." At the end of the day, folks remember these accusation while having no memory for policy statements and the offer of evidence as to her claims of qualification.
"to the exclusion of supportive facts" ?????
ReplyDeleteWe're talking about registered republicans polled this summer (a huge sample) where 41% think Obama was not born in America and 31% aren't sure. 54% of Trump supporters believe Obama is a Muslim. Nearly 20% of Trump supporters think slavery was a good idea.
These aren't supportive facts?
The article was about "identity politics" and the demise of the Democrat party.
DeleteAll those numbers? How about a source, or are you afraid will will not be able to stop laughing after you give me your source? So you are saying that 30 million Americans think Hussein is a Muslim. 30 million??? 25 million think he was born outside the States? Not even close. And roughly 10 million think slavery was a good thing? Keep believing all that crap and you all will not be able to win an election Central America.
What ? Isn't your google working? These polls are widely reported. If they are off by 5 or even 10%, it still shows the deplorable racist element in the GOP.
DeleteYou want me to research your BS? Besides, you can triple those numbers when talking about the cop killers in the BLM, Al Sharpton and his bunch of vandals; Green Peace and their war against new car lots and new construction, and the inner city gangs . . . all part of the Demnocrat war on this nation.
