It is estimated that more than 7 million stayed away from the polls on election day, 7 million conservatives, because Mitt Romney was a Mormon or was seen as a "progressive" (Glenn Beck's bit of idiocy). As it turns out, the true conservatives in the 2012 primary season all self destructed. I was a big Newt fan, but Newt nuked himself. Mitt was only the "last man standing." He was not there because of an imagined "progessive agenda" within the GOP. In fact, he ran as a conservative, promising to rid the nation of ObamaCare, the Department of Education, to end support for Planned Parenthood, and rebuild our military. Unfortunately for Mitt, he failed to appreciate the influence of Sarah Palin and did not involve her, in any way, in his campaign or at the national convention. Big mistake.
More than ignoring the single most powerful conservative influence in the party, the morons pundits (some of them) on the Right, decided we needed a purest in office. As a result, they helped reelect Obama as an unintended consequence of their own stupidity and narrow ideology. Romney was our last chance to end ObamaCare, and, anyone who can stop to think for more than 15 seconds, knows the truth of what I am saying.
Understand that when Mike Lee and Ted Cruz (both good men, btw) admit “Obama
probably will not sign a bill to end ObamaCare,” they are not be fully honest. There is no doubt about Obama’s
signature, nor is there any doubt about
the Senate’s vote on the issue. Maybe a year from now and after the 2014 mid-terms, we can get something done short of Obama's support, well, time will tell. But we lost
the war on ObamaCare (legislatively speaking) when we failed to turn out, in
mass, for the 2012 elections.
Our only hope for a partial “repeal,” is found in the fact
that ObamaCare is such a poorly thought
out piece of legislation. I mean, when
the Dems did not read the thing, when
they decided to increase the size and scope of the new heathcare entitlements without budgetary increases, when they repeatedly
lied to the American people about its basic features, there is a [remote] hope that the bill will
fail under its own weight. I mean, at some point, the government will run out of money. Maybe ObamaCare is the financial straw that breaks the
back of Big Government spenders such as Obama and McCain.
Do we lay down and die, on this issue? Of course not, but our fight has to be reasonable in order to be effective, and right now, our war against ObamaCare is neither.
