William Jacobson at Legal Insurrection, has a statement from the Sanford police telling him
The Sanford Police Department says that it has no evidence of neo-Nazis in the area. “We have not seen any neo-Nazis on patrol nor have we had any reports of them,” says Sgt. David Morgenstern. He added that there had been no sign of the New Black Panther Party, either.
Matt Drudge is presently running with a headline that reads: Armed Neo-Nazis Now Patrolling Sanford, FL... With the correction, above, in mind, I took time to follow this story as presented on Drudge. Perhaps I am missing something, but this is what I found:
Clicking on the headline link, Drudge takes the reader to a story he got from WTF Florida in the Miami New Times. The "correction" published by Jackson at Legal Insurrection, has been added to the Drudge-linked story as an "update." What is puzzling is the fact that this updated correction does not play a rhetorical role in the story, itself. The correction is just there -- hanging around on its own, having no effect on the "WTF" story itself.
As one reads the Miami Times article a second time, trying to understand just what is being said, he realizes that the claim of New Black Panther patrols is made but without any serious evidence of the truth of the claim. In fact, a careful reading makes it clear that the information for this story comes from Commander Jeff Schoep of the National Socialist Movement, hardly a reliable source if used as the only source for this story . . . . . and it is the only source referenced.
William Jacobson is Associate Clinical Professor at Cornell Law School. Jacobson is a fellow patriot and his blog, Real Insurrection ranks at 41,000 out of 280 million on a dynamic ranking at Alexa. His blog is well known and popular in conservative talk venues. Jacobson has earned the right to be trusted in his analysis.
(Midknight Review, by contrast, ranks 5,900,000 out of 280 million other blogs and, believe me, I am pleased with that . . . . . not satisfied but pleased. Six months ago, my blog's dynamic ranking was around 26,000,000. Very good things have happened to this Review, recently. Tell a friend).
Legal Insurrection recently published an article in which Jacobson mentioned his infrequent reference to Drudge. Now I know why.
Fortunately for me, most of the commentary on Midknight Review is original, but the facts are not. Using Drudge out of a sense of caution seems to be good advice. I recommend Legal Insurrection and have used this source of information for several years, myself.
