The popular vote does not elect our presidents. That is the function of our "electoral college." Here are electoral values for each state.

Click on "Read more" for a detailed listing of the 2008 electoral vote. This will give the reader a good feel for what is needed to reverse the Obama election of three years ago. All of this can be found at Real Clear Politics. Currently, and according to RealClearPolitics, the best guess as to the electoral reality for the coming election is this: Obama with 201 electoral votes (it takes 270 electoral votes to win a presidential election); the Republicans probably have a total of 191 votes, as of the writing of this post with 146 votes up for grabs.

A teachable moment: if our elections were decided by a popular vote/winner takes all, instead of the "electoral college" concept of our representative form of government, the states along both coast lines would rule the nation. No politician would campaign in Colorado or Tennessee, or Iowa or Hawaii or Alaska; get rid of the electoral college, as the radical libs want to do, and you end "democracy" for two thirds of the nation, ten states would rule the remaining 40. Anybody think that is a good idea?
