Oooops! I should have written "C-Span." That was a real typo, folks :---).It was to be a "bare knuckles" bar fight type debate, of Douglas/Lincoln fame. Probably best that this wasn't the case.
Instead, it was a "sit-down" discussion between Cain and Gingrich, pleasant and informative, but, not the knocked down drag out of its original billing.
What happened? Why no blood and guts?
Mercy.
I think the two men agreed that Herman would be no match for Newt in a heavyweight type fight, so they decided the very next-best thing, and shared their views, in some detail, with the audience. I liked it.
And Herman had the best quote of the night. At the end of the hour, prompted by the moderator, Herman took the opportunity to ask: "Newt, if you were VP (laughter) and I, the President, what would be the first thing . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . you would want me to tell you to do."
As far as the GOP presidential bid is concerned, this election cycle will be most different in terms of voter focus. This time out, the presidency will be a team effort. The VP selection is as critical to the future of this country as is that of the presidential candidate. .
Any of these "teams," would be effective if not great: Romney/Paul Ryan or Newt; Rick Perry/Paul Ryan or Newt; Cain/Newt. Other names that come to mind for a VP selection include Marco Rubio, Kay Bailey Hutchison, Eric Cantor with a heart, Governor Chris Christie, Diane Black (Rep - Tn), Governor Mitch Daniels, Senator John Thun, Marsha Blackburn (Rep. Tn) Representative Devon Nunes (Ca), Michele Bachmann (Rep Minn.).
Make note of the fact that when Newt put out the challenge for other GOP candidates to meet him in the Saturday night debate, only Herman Cain took the challenge.
As to the "sex scandal," we have nothing much to report expect 10 minutes of laughter (on my part) at the news that, after 5 weeks of yellow reporting from the Politico, the woman at the center of the "scandal," refused to come forward when told that she could do so without penalty.
How ridiculous is this story? Five weeks of "crack reporting" turns up not one specific detail in a fantasy expose' Politico published more than 90 times in 5 days. Even the Liberals at CNN and the Marxist Radicals at MSNBC were asking, "When will we see the details of this scandal?" How many stories did you see when we realized that Obama used cocaine? And that was true !! Now this. Understand, folks, that its all about winning the 2012 elections for the Radicals and nothing more.
In the end, we must conclude that liberal crack reporting must have something to do with drug abuse.
Was the Cain story a made up affair? Not entirely. Was it really a "sex" scandal? Not at all. Was it a settlement or a termination agreement? Well, it was never arbitrated by a legal entity; never went to court; no one sued anyone; there was no agreement signed by all parties; no admission of guilt; no specific "charges" made; no one was fired; the pay-out was equal to a year's salary; no one has ever "come forward" as was the case with Bill 'pants on the floor' Clinton and, in the end, when told to "put up or shut up," the story went dark.
Anyway, the "scandal" is over. Know this: the story ended so badly for the idiots in the media, that Herman Cain is pretty much insulated from any additional stories should he be the GOP candidate . . . . . . even if the story is a new story, involving different people and true. It just won't be the same. "Here we go again" will be too much to overcome. If they are going to burn Cain, it will have to be with a completely different KIND of scandal, that's for sure.
I leave you with this, from the Telegraph:
Those who leaked the details of the 1990s sexual harassment cases might have thought that they’d destroy Herman Cain and leave his campaign dangling from a tree. But, as befits this strange and unpredictable election campaign, a funny thing happened on the way to the lynching.
Nov 8 Update: Gloria Allred, the self-serving "shock jock" of the celebrity world, will hold a press conference this morning (pacific time) as she brings a 4th woman "forward," charging Cain with harassment claims. It is more than curious to me, that all of these claims occurred [only] while he was head of the National Restaurant Association.
