Cain's problem is not the "scandal" but the constant sound of "drip, drip, drip."

Gloria Allred, one of the more self-serving legal pundits in our society, is calling a press conference for one o'clock this afternoon (et). She will be representing another woman coming out, charging Herman Cain with inappropriate behavior. To date, none of us have any reason to believe any of the "scandalous" claims, BUT . . . .

the problem is not the scandal, it is the constant drip, drip, drip of new allegations. Understand that the media is digging up women out of Cain's past. They are not simply paying women to come out of nowhere, to make these allegations. It is more than curious to me, that all this occurred while he was head of the National Restaurant Association. He only acted inappropriately during the brief time he represented this business conern? See my point? A liiiiiiiiiiitle fishy, BUT . . . .

again, he cannot survive the constant drip of allegation after allegation. He really needs to come out with all the possible issues, all the women involved making these charges, bogus or otherwise. He has to get ahead of the story and, to date, he refuses to do so.

Cain was asked about this latest round of gossip this morning. He was unaware of the pending press conference and any of the charges that might come out of this very public meeting. Really? He has no clue whatsoever?

Here is what we know about the two or three woman who have made charges, to date. They remain nameless. Their settlements do not rise above the level of "severance pay." There are no specific charges. Sex was not a part of any of these accusations. And this all supposedly happened when he was with the restaurant association and at no other time. A review of what we know forces us to admit that this is a non-scandal, if one cares about evidence and hard facts. To date, the media has nothing but the constant drip of mounting allegations. That might be enough, however.

Look, if these women are real women out of Cain's past, gold-diggers as they might be, then Cain knows who they are and what they are about. So far, that has been true with the first three.
While the facts of this story do not begin to approximate the admitted facts of the Clinton scandals, Cain cannot allow this to continue. He absolutely has to get ahead of all this, instead of hoping that the media will give up. If the media wants to destroy you, we all know that it is 90% that this will happen.

I was once the president of a slow-growth association in Mt. Shasta, California. We were not "anti-growth." We supported the "general plan" of the day, a population growth plan for the community that allowed for the assimilation of population increases in an effective and appropriate fashion. The media was not allowed to attend our meetings, after their first story about the group. Media representatives attended the first meeting and knew exactly what the association was about; exactly what we were about. Yet, its morning headline, top of the fold, was "Anti-growth group seeking to gain influence . . . . , " an absolute lie. I informed the reporter that he was no longer invited to our meetings. My comment to him was, "You do not need to be in our meetings if you are going to make up stories about our purpose and plans. You can do that sitting at home, in your underwear. You have already proven that." My point in sharing this story? The media lies and almost never recants.

I was able to run the local media into the ground on the story, but had our community been larger, I and the association I represented, would have lost the war.

Point of post: Herman Cain has survived the scandal. He will not survive the continuing drum-beat of scandal, however. On this, he has no choice but to get ahead of the matter. If there are two or three or six more women to be revealed, and he knows who they are , well, it is over, if he allows this story to string out over the course of the coming weeks. At one time, I thought he was ahead on this matter. I no longer believe that to be the case.

We hate the media for this, but continue to empower its henchmen, just the same. "Death by a thousand cuts" is the media's strategy, here. Understand that the media is all about saving face, at this point. They lost the first three rounds. They do not want to lose the next.
