Mission Statement: This blog reviews the news of the day in light of 242 years of American history. "Nationalism," a modern day pejorative, has been our country's politic throughout history, until 2008. Obama changed that narrative. Trump is seeking a return to our historical roots. Midknight Review supports this return to normality.
Rubio's post caucus speech . . . this is why I support Rubio.
The common thread among GOP candidates is 'take America back.' Since 1947, there have been 11 official recessions, totaling 49 recessionary quarters. Of those 49 quarters, just eight occurred under Democratic presidents, compared to 41 under Republicans. So, over the past 65 years, quarters in recession were about five times more common under a Republican president than under a Democratic president. Take America back to recession?
The Great Recession was managed if not cuased by Democrat IFDR) policies. GW Bush inherited a Clintonian recession. The Dems owned the House and the Senate and all banking oversight committees beginning with the 2006 elections. The collapse two years later, in 2008, belongs to them, not Bush who tried to rein in "Affordable Housing" and its drive to give unqualified home owners unsustainable loans. The next president in 2017 will inherit eight freaking years of 1.4% real GDP and an economy that may be in recession as we speak.
