A brief review of today's daily press conference: in short, Jay Carney is catching hell from all of the attending media. Fox is no longer the only network working on the Benghazi talking points or other scandals reported in the past two days.

It is clear that the tide has changed as to Benghazi.  The national press is all over the story,  as produced by ABC News, last evening,  in which it charged that the Administration had rewritten the Susan Rice talking points 12 times,  at the behest of the State Department.

An email has surfaced that indicts State Department spokesman,  Victoria Nuland,  in which she charged State Department staff with deleting references to al Qaeda,  "terrorist" activity,  the culpability of Lybian based jihadist groups and the like,  from the infamous talking points.

I have been reluctant to report that the "wheels are coming off" the Benghazi cover-up,  but,  indeed,  it now appears to be the case.

You may recognize Victoria Nuland
Listening to this morning's presser,  it is clear that the press corps is not limiting its questioning to Benghazi.  The breaking story of yesterday,  that the IRS had used its powers to intimidate some 300 conservative groups was also the subject of some of the press conference's questioning.  Understand that the IRS accusation, an ongoing story not reported by the major media in 2011 and 2012,  is not undeniable fact in view of the public admissions made by the IRS and its apologies for this illegal activity.

Further,  it is clear that the Obama Administration knows it has a firestorm on its hands.  Before this mornings press conference postponed twice as the WH desperately "schooled" Jay Carney on the correct responses to anticipated questions,   the WH held a secret meeting with 14 members of the press ----  again,  BEFORE the delayed press conference.

Brietbart adds this report:
In the White House’s latest efforts at transparency, the administration announced to reporters that it would brief reporters on the latest shocking developments about the Benghazi situation … behind closed doors. Politico reports that the meeting started at approximately 12:45 PM ET, and that it moved the normal press briefing to 1:45 PM ET. Jay Carney, White House press secretary, did not comment on whether the meeting took place.

The off-the-record session was announced to reporters in the wake of an ABC News report showing that White House and State Dept. officials were involved in revising the now-discredited CIA talking points about the attack on Benghazi.

The administration routinely exerts pressure on reporters it feels are not kind enough in their coverage. Reporters like Cheryl Attkisson of CBS News have felt the hand of their bosses for “wading dangerously close to advocacy” with regard to Benghazi. No doubt this “off-the-record” meeting was designed to get all the president’s horses and all the president’s men to put the Benghazi humpty dumpty together again.

UPDATE: Reporters not invited to the off-the-record briefing are reportedly incredibly unhappy about it:
