Updated for this comment: Summary statement: with the following, you should know that the House and the Senate are acting "normal" as they deal with the new health care reform bill. They fight and scratch and make ridiculous statements, but in the end, if the bill is "miraculously" passes into law. The process is NEVER smooth and transitional, on its surface. It ALWAYS looks like doom and gloom. It is always the darkest before the dawn. In other words, our conservative congress is exactly where it needs to be, less than half way through the process. My advice? God fishing. If the GOP is going to do the right thing, you will know about it, maybe a month or two or three from now. Or read this blog for continued positive reinforcement . . . . . . . "positive" I say except when my hair catches fire ~ editor, J David Smithson.
Rand Paul is framing the Ryan discussion about support for the new health care reform bill calling the vote for the bill, "A slam dunk." Of course, Ryan has never used that term. It originated with Rand Paul for the disturbing effort of maligning the Speaker. It is a lie, on its face.
Having said this, I want you all to know what is happening in regards to the health care reform bill. Hopefully, I can relieve doubts as to the future of the GOP, knowing that failure with regard to passing a healthcare reform bill is not an option, that is if the GOP hopes to build on the successes of the past six years (since winning the 2010 midterms).
For starters, there simply are no Republicans or congressional conservatives who do not understand that passage is an absolute must. Again, there is no option.
Secondly, what we all are witnessing, is the congressional process up front and personal. This is how the process works. I am 71 years old and when congress works, the process is no different. Everyone chooses up sides, and, speaks with no hint of future compromise. The proposed bill passes through various committees as they "mark up" or rewrite the bill.
When the bill passes through the House and all its committees, it is written into legislative form and sent to the dead heads in the Senate. If our Senators get off their collective and arrogant duffs (Senators often think they are the more critical members of congress compared to the people's representatives in the House), the House bill is submitted to various Senate committees, debated on the floor of the Senate, written into legislative bill which is sent to reconciliation.
Reconciliation is a collection of House and Senate members who "meet in the middle" for the purpose of bringing the two bills (House and Senate) into agreement. After reconciliation, the bill is resubmitted to each house of congress. The result either fails the bill or approves the bill as law and is sent to the President for his signatures.
Now, that is the process. With the Dems, back in 2009/2010, the process had much more to do with deal making (we will give Nebraska this favor and Iowa that favor in exchange for a congressional vote). And that is exactly why Obama Care is such a monumental failure, fiscally.
One thing I learned for those Obama years . . . . the Dems have no clue as to how to write and score an effective bill. I mean, if they think it makes sense to pass the bill before they know what they approves (!!!), well, that is crazy silly. But, if you are a Democrat, that is what you have in your "leadership."
The A Team is back in charge. Let's see if they win the game.
