After last week's rhetorical idiocy, Scott Walker backed off his endorsement of Trump, as did Lindsey Graham, Mark Kirk (an Illinois Senator), Paul Ryan and, in effect, Newt Gingrich . . . . . and this (I believe) is only the tip of the iceberg.
Update: Do not forget, no Republican nominee has ever won the Presidency without carrying the State of Ohio . . . . . . and it is doubtful that John Kasich will be a viable force for the Trump election effort. This, in and of itself, is damning to Donald Trump's effort to being the next President of the United States.
Hugh Hewitt, influential conservative radio host, is calling for a Dump Trump effort at the Republican Convention (July 18-21) five weeks from now.
Understand that the Fox News poll, a fairly accurate polling effort during this campaign season, had Trump ahead of Hillary 45 to 42 percent. As of yesterday, a week later and a couple of days after Trump's rhetorical stupidity, he is now running behind Hillary, 42 to 39, a downturn of 6 points in a single week. More than this, he lost 11 pts. with independents and may be running under 80% with the GOP faithful.
How bad is this polling information? Well, for starters, he cannot win the election without a hefty Independent vote, which he had before last week (16 points up on Hillary). Secondly, he cannot win the election if his approval/participation numbers with the GOP voting block is under 87% . I have not seen the recent numbers, but at last glance (a week ago), he was at 80% and rising. Today? My guess has him coming in with less than 80% and trending in the wrong direction.
As bad as this is, Hillary is in as much trouble. Participation rates for the Democrat Primary season were down 25% while the GOP numbers before last week, were up 60%. More than this, her disapproval numbers are higher than Trumps and trending upwards. While she destroyed the feckless Sanders in California, winning 56% to 43% , the Democrat primary vote count was down 30%.
Now you know more than yesterday.
