NT Times: "Guns were illegal." Not true. They were altered, illegally.

(NY Times) The rifles used in the San Bernardino mass shooting were illegal under California law because they were modified and violated the state’s ban on assault weapons, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives determined on Thursday.

Editor's notes: The guns (AR - 15's) were perfectly legal. They were illegally altered. BFD. You cannot prevent folks from changing a semi-automatic into an automatic weapon. Its too easy to do.

In addition to the alteration, which can be done with the tip of a bullet, the magazines used in the AR-15's, held 30 rounds instead of state mandated 10 rounds. But none of this is important if the guns had not be purchased, legally.
