Mission Statement: This blog reviews the news of the day in light of 242 years of American history. "Nationalism," a modern day pejorative, has been our country's politic throughout history, until 2008. Obama changed that narrative. Trump is seeking a return to our historical roots. Midknight Review supports this return to normality.
Thought for the Day: If Obama can't identify ISIS with Islam, then he cannot identify the Crusades with Christianity, and for precisely the same reasons. (no article just this extraordinary thought).
ISIS does not represent Islam. They are a militant terrorist organization. The Crusades, the Inquisition ... were sanctioned officially by the Roman Catholic Church.
You're "thought for the day" is like a lot of your thoughts: a false equivalency.
I am not a Catholic. I would argue that the Catholic Church of the Inquisition and the Crusades was no more representative of biblical Christianity than ISIS is official to Islam. There were plenty of non-Catholic Christians killed in the Inquisition . . . . a perfect picture of equivalency.
"Christ 'established here on earth' only one Church. The other communities cannot be called 'churches' in the proper sense because they do not have apostolic succession -- the ability to trace their bishops back to Christ's original apostles -- and therefore their priestly ordinations are not valid." --Pope Benedict
I am not a CatholicChristian. The Crusades did not represent my Faith or my Christ. The Inquisition was the Roman church against the indiual Chrisitian community at the time. The Roman Church did not represent Christ's ambitions for this world anymore than ISIS represents the moderate voice of the larger Islam community. And it is your faith that has failed.
