What to do about Obama's amnesty? I suggest that we all take a breath; smoke and mirrors never works in the long haul and that is all this "amnesty" is . . . . wait a year and we will all see this is a giant nothing-burger.

<<  Know what this is?  Seriously,  it is a nothing-burger.  Put a suit on this thing,  and you have the Obama Doctrine.

Tomorrow evening,  we are told that Obama will announce amnesty for up to 5 million illegals during prime time.  As is his oft used strategy,  he will tie his reforms to those of Ronald Reagan.  Expect him to argue that he is only doing what Reagan did,  without mentioning the undeniable fact that Reagan did not circumvent Congress,  and,  his amnesty was several years in the making,   before Congress was able to work out the agreement.

Update:  To be clear,  Reagan signed a piece of legislation in 1986 that granted amnesty and promised to close the border.  The Dems lied on that last count,  but,  that aside,  Reagan did not use executive order to effect amnesty.

Obama will tell you there will be no food stamps, no healthcare and no free background checks for those who stand to benefit.  They must prove that they have been here for at least 5 years and have family  (children?) already living here.

What he will not tell you is that deportations that do not occur at the border upon attempted entry into this country,  are at record lows.  He will not tell you about his "no shoot" policy or his "don't ask,  don't tell" orders for our Border Agents.  He will not tell you that he has no plans for dealing with the future influx of aliens into this country.  He will not even hint at the fact that we already have an immigration system and admit 1.7 million into this country,  legally.

Can the GOP stop him,  after Establishment types,  within the GOP,  have spent years and years increasing the powers of the presidency?  No,  at least,  not in the immediate future.  But,  in time,  they will be able to cut funding for this executive order,  since such orders are "law."  Funding lawful commitments and legal federal agencies are at the top of everyone's budget list.  But funding a policy dreamed up by a man on a power trip  -  that is different, and it is different,  because the program is not law.

Of course,  Obama believes that his amnesty could bring down the GOP, and, that is a serious issue.  But,  understand,  his amnesty does not solve the immigration problem,  either.  The folks who are here are already working,  and living without serious concerns for deportation.  The lives of those receiving green cards,  will not change in a radical way  . . . .   and this just might be the Catch 22 for the Dems.  It is entirely possible,  that they have outsmarted themselves,  in a way similar to the "solution" offered to the college crowd,  and, Obama's promise of lower priced education that never translated into reality.  Or,  the offer of "jobs created" that has yet to manifest itself,  nationally,  and,  especially,  in the Black community,  where Obama's promises have benefited not one of his middle class brothers.

My suggestion,  for what it is worth?  Take a deep breath.  In time,  we will all realize this is just more smoke and mirrors.
