Do you actually believe we have no poor. [Note: the Editor had made the claim that our poverty threshold of $12,000 for an individual and $24,000 for a family of four,  put those folks in the top 7% of the world's population.  From that perspective,  the Editor (that would be me) claimed the US has no poor].  Wake up and smell the flour in the Ozarks. Without assistance (you call it "welfare"), those folks really could not make it. This the problem with Republicans, they put money and making money over the health and well-being of millions of Americans.
You have bragged about the comfortable retirement you enjoy. If that money came from SS and you are a member of Medicare, where do you think that comfortable retirement came from? You didn't earn it, you got it from others . . . the rest of us suckers who have to work to support your dying generation.

  1. "Poor" is a comparative term. Go to the 3 billion who make two dollars a day or less, and ask them if our 12,000 dollar poverty threshold looks like poverty to them. Expand that to the 6.6 billion who earn Mexico wages or less and ask them the same question.

And "yes," part of my income come from SS and Medicare benefits. Without them, I (we - my wife and I) would be in trouble, financially . . . . . . BUT, if we had not had that contract from Central Planning, we would have planned our retirement differently. The plan (Social Security and Medicare) was that my contributions and those of my Boomer generation were to pay for all of what we receive. That was the lying, bullshit plan, Central Planning promised. If anything, your little rant is an indictment of Government, not an exoneration of same.

Finally, your statement " . . . the rest of us suckers who have to work to support y our dying generation.. . ." makes it sound as if you are not going to continue the problem, years after you and your generation knows SS is not keeping up with its monthly payments, going deeper and deeper into debt, and Medicare, which now owes itself 47 trillion dollars, only exists as long as we can keep borrowing money from foreign countries, one of which is Red China.

  1. Smithson lives off the government and complains about the government. Republicans say the government doesn't work then they get elected and shut it down, blocking every single Obama appointment and initiative. The red states take more from funding from the government than they pay in taxes, yet complain about 'entitlements'. These are the same people who call themselves Christians yet would give no quarter to child refugees, support wars (war crimes and genocide) that kill people of other religions, and deny women healthcare ... this is their so called 'culture of life.'

    1. If you live a long life, you would get what you paid, but because you are unhealthy, you will die soon and not get what you paid in. Conservatives are fatter, less concerned with healthy lifestyle, die sooner. Liberals live longer ... plain and simple. Liberals are better educated, more healthy and more successful. Conservatives are a dying breed and will die off as humans evolve.
