Mission Statement: This blog reviews the news of the day in light of 242 years of American history. "Nationalism," a modern day pejorative, has been our country's politic throughout history, until 2008. Obama changed that narrative. Trump is seeking a return to our historical roots. Midknight Review supports this return to normality.
Test: Review the political cartoon and tell us which anti-Christian nation is not included (Hint: you live in that country).
Our bible, both the Catholic bible (with its inclusion of the Apocrypha) and the Protestant bible, is a compilation of thousands of documents, (early Greek papyri fragments dating back to 50 AD - all of New Testament scriptures, codices (the whole Bible), the Septuagint and translations of the Masoretic text (giving us the Greek and Hebrew versions of the Old Testament, respectively), writings and translation of the Early Church Fathers, lectionaries, and countless early-age translations (into languages other than Greek for the New Testament and Hebrew for the Old). Literally, thousands of pieces of textual evidence dating before 480 AD for New Testament scripture, exist. None of them speak of a wife for Jesus. None.
The single, lone, document you reference, above, is dated AFTER THIS TIME (650 to 850 AD), but you would have us believe that this late date, fragment, trumps all early evidence used in the assembly of our Bible. Understand that not one passage or phrase, is included in our Bible because of a single piece of evidence, such as the Coptic (?) fragment that is in the news, today.
Besides this, who cares if Jesus had a wife. I don't. If he did, she did not travel with him, was not at any of his miracles, did not sit in the audience when he preached and taught, was not present at the trial, and made no effort to identify herself, at any time, as his wife and had better things to do than help with his burial and pray with the 120, during the 50 days following his resurrection.
Is the document fake? That is a question that has NOTHING TO DO with this question: Does the document tell the truth? You can have a legitimate artifact of anything. That does not mean it bears truth in its message.
Finally, you are a secular atheist. You don’t believe in the bible, at all, but, strangely, it spears that you believe in this single, Coptic fragment that was written 700 years after the first century. It is you who is the unbeliever and disdains the biblical message, DESPITE ALL THE TEXTUAL AND PERSONAL EVIDENCE to the contrary. You are an authority of nothing and this document is a testament to your ignorance as to biblical evidence and scholarship.
The Bible sells more than 100 million copies per year and has more historic evidence than any single fact of American history. In other words, this 2000 year old book (the Bible) has far more evidence attesting to it’s accurate translation and inclusion, than the evidentiary trail of any fact of American history, including what just happened yesterday and the day before.
As a critic of the Bible, you are a laughable fake, not the document in question.
I would end this by saying, “So, burn in hell,” except for the fact that I believe God’s grace just might save the likes of you, in spite of yourself. So, all I can say, is “Have a good life.”
Out of religion, comes this BS. Science denial and ignorance: http://www.slate.com/blogs/bad_astronomy/2014/04/08/the_principle_a_documentary_about_geocentrism.html
Believe the Bible? Historical document? No one has the slightest physical evidence to support a historical Jesus; no artifacts, dwelling, works of carpentry, or self-written manuscripts. All claims about Jesus derive from writings of other people. There occurs no contemporary Roman record that shows Pontius Pilate executing a man named Jesus. Devastating to historians, there occurs not a single contemporary writing that mentions Jesus. All documents about Jesus came well after the life of the alleged Jesus from either: unknown authors, people who had never met an earthly Jesus, or from fraudulent, mythical or allegorical writings.
Jesus had a wife. When evidence surfaced, all the conservatives attack it as fake. They can't handle the truth.
