In fact, it does appears that a downward trending in Obama's approval numbers is in the works, after a couple of months of upward movement. His seven day average, a Midknight Review exclusive number, was as low as 44.5% sometime before the midterm elections. But, after the elections, the folks responded favorably to his compromise on the tax issue and his 7 day averages rose substantially, reaching a year and a half high of 50% two weeks ago. And then he gave that State of the Union address and lost a point and a half in his average (down to 48.5%) . His handling of the Middle East Crisis is not being well received, either. and his averages continue to fall. The movement is slight, at this writing, and may be reversed with his actions in the coming days.
But the story of the "come back kid" is pretty much a dead-end story. We believe he is his own worst enemy and that he cannot rise above that reality. Time will tell.
