Sharpton has been outspoken over the past several weeks in his effort to take Rush Limbaugh off the air. Sharpton double talks his agenda, admitting on the one hand that Limbaugh has the right to speak his mind but, on the hand, does not have the right to use the public and regulated airwaves to do so.
Nothing confusing about Sharpton's commentary if you understand that he is lying about the first scenario. Sharpton does not believe in free speech rights, period. This is a guy who believes in the full-on redistribution of wealth to the poor. He has made remarks to the effect that this country is not where it should be unless and until every home contains the "same stuff." And now, he wants to control our ability to protest his selfish and hate-filled agenda.
He has accused Limbaugh of racism, a wildly racist statement in and of itself. We are saying that it is Sharpton who trades in racist "scandal," not the likes of Rush Limbaugh. The sad news is this, Sharpton has an audience within the Administration in Obama and the Chairman of the FCC, Mr. Copps.
Copps wants to force radio stations to re-up their licenses every four years rather than every eight. In addition to the change in this time frame, there would be a "values test" to which stations' scheduling policies align themselves with FCC/Government standards. The "test" would measure scheduling quotas and rhetorical content.
Who favors this government involvement ? Copps of course, Chuckie Schumer, Dick Durban, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Van Jones (yes, he is still around), all of the Congressional Black Caucus, Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, Louis Farrakhan and on and on.
Anyone who favors this function for the FCC is either an enemy of the State or someone who is so misinformed as to be a serious threat to the freedoms of us all. It is that critical a matter.
It is apparent to this editor that the FCC must be taken down altogether or closely governed by Congress. As it now stands, the FCC can be used to circumvent Congress as it violates the First Amendment. That must not be allowed.
FCC Chairman Copps is working for the following according to The Hill:
Copps had suggested that the test would make a broadcaster's license renewal contingent upon proof that they meet a prospective set of federal criteria.
He said outlets should be mandated to do the following: prove they have made a meaningful commitment to public affairs and news programming, prove they are committed to diversity programming (for instance, by showing that they depict women and minorities), report more to the government about which shows they plan to air, require greater disclosure about who funds political ads and devote 25 percent of their prime-time coverage to local news.
The regulations would apply to all news outlets operating on the public airwaves. There is no more important congressional consideration than this issue. We mean to say this ranks higher than the tax cut issue or the extension of unemployment benefits. Understand that nothing is more critical to the advancement of personal freedoms than our free speech rights. Nothing.
Copps needs to be terminated simply because he has made this suggestion. It is treasonist by its very nature.
