Poverty, real poverty, not the American version of poverty, pollution, real pollution, not the American version of same, real energy independence, not the hard Left's European version of same, is what we need.
This video points us in the right direction but with the wrong solutions. No one wants to see a little girl cry. Everyone wants to see the child smile. BUT we, as a nation, simply cannot institutionalize proven failed solutions. And that is where "Green for All" misses the mark.
We are at a crossroads in this nation's history. Turn left and we will arrive at Take It Land; turn right, and we will find our way out of the jungle and back to Make It Land. This is a contest between Takers and Makers and the issues that define the ensuing struggle are not all ideological. Rather, most have to do with the practicalities of jobs solution and the individual's pursuit for happiness. Where society has failed, and we ARE a society of individuals, we need to offer help to those who are in need of food, shelter, clothing and qualification to live and survive in this country. If we leave off that last assignment, "qualification to live and survive in this country," all we have done is created an entitlement culture within the larger and more secure population. We will always have an entitlement class (the poor you have with you always), but that class needs to be "transitory" in the sense that while some move into that class others have been given the education and vocational skills to move out.
Understand that the "pursuit of happiness" is an opportunity of, by , and for the people, but not "the people" as a collective. Rather, as individuals. Cookie cutter societies have never worked. There is not a successful example of a "one size fits all" society in this world. Where it has been tried, and it is everywhere in Europe, unemployment is forever at 12%, the work-week is forever at 30 hours (plus or minus), religion has failed and the social state cannot keep up with the demand for more and more.
As conservatives, this editor does not think we are seriously involved with real solutions for those who must learn to exist in a free society. If we - as conservatives - can develop a social conscience that works to qualify the young and/or inexperienced, we will drive the final nail into the coffen of a very dead Marxist "alternative." While we glory in our 230 years of success, we must admit to and solve the failures that have attached themselves to our way of life. It is not enough to say, "I can do it so you must do the same." We all carried our children WHILE we were busy teaching them to walk and run and leave home to be on their own. We must emulate that task on a societal scale if we are to win the war against the godless forces that have been waiting in the shadows. Ignore this assignment and the dreams of the Fathers will be the true victims and the great American experiment in "freedom" will have finally failed.
