Environmental projects fail to live up to hype
The day-dream (and it was never more than that) of Obama was to replace oil related product, which supplies 85% of our nation's energy needs with solar and wind supply. Oh, he threw in "nuclear," but he has made it clear that nuclear is not an option unless and until we figure out what to do with the waste product. So, it's solar and wind. The problem with his "plan" is that it will take 3 trillion dollars to get the nation ready for the change-over and, in the meantime, gas and oil prices will go through the roof . . . . . . . . killing hope for any sort of financial recovery. More than this, it will take 15 years to 'boot up' for the changes needed to accommodate these energy sources, assuming that the environmental wacko's on the Left allow for these changes. A whole new electric grid will need to be constructed, nation wide - this is where most of the cost is incurred; thousands of acres of land will need to be confiscated in preparation for "solar farm" construction and wind mill stands; plans have to be drawn, environmental studies completed, and monies allocated (from the Federal government). The WaTimes has this to say:
"After months of hype about the potential for green energy to stimulate job growth and lead the economy out of a recession, the results turned out to be disappointing, if not dismal. About $92 billion - more than 11 percent - of Mr. Obama's original $814 billion of stimulus funds were targeted for renewable energy projects when the measure was pushed through Congress in early 2009 ."
Turns out that 80% of the monies allocated for green energy jobs went overseas (China, Spain and South Korea). Of the 982 wind turbines approved to date, for example, 695 have been ordered from outside this country and none of them will be manufactured and installed within the next 3 years.
The "green jobs" presidential hype has gone the way of the wind. Obama no longer mentions the phrase "green jobs" and no legislation is in the works under the banner of "renewable energy." The individual states cannot afford this pipe dream and the wheels have come off the Democrat/Socialist spending machine.
So much for Obama's jobs creation ideas: solar panels, wind turbine construction, filling potholes, weather stripping homes are no longer mentioned in any of this amateur's speeches.
After 20 months, we are very nearly where we were 15 months ago. Next time, let's vote for someone who has a clue, shall we?
