A few passages from our reading of the Koran.

Here is the headline: Capitol Quran reading Saturday to ‘counter the forces of ignorance’

We wonder if the reading will include these thoughtful passages ? Note that the Koran was written during the 7th century, A.D. The wars between the Arab hordes and the Christian hordes had been waged for hundreds of years. Muhammad [the Prophet] put the face of religion on the Arab population in the 600's. Unbelievers, in the Koran, are specifically "Jews and Christians" and are mentioned dozens of times. The book is all about a defense of Islam and the judgment of unbelievers and Jews and Christians. Midknight Review estimates those passages in the Koran having to do with how to live a better and fulfilling life, helping the needy, gracious living and the like to constitute no more than 7% of its content.

We worship God along, we ascribe no partner to Him, and none of us takes others than God as lords." 3: 59 - 64

"Those who wage war against God and his Messenger (Allah and Mohammad) and strive to spread corruption in the land should be punished by death, crucifixion, the amputation of an alternate hand and foot, or banishment from the land a disgrace for them in this world and then a terrible punishment in the Hereafter, unless they repent before you overpower them . . . 5: 33.34
