Senate jobs bill clears key hurdle
WASHINGTON (AP) - Senate Democrats on Wednesday overcame Republican opposition and cleared the way for a $26 billion measure to help states ease their severe budget problems and save the jobs of tens of thousands of teachers and other public employees. The bill advanced by a 61-38 tally that...
Editor's notes: a filibuster was broken with the help of the Maine GOP babes (Snowe and Collins), moving the spending bill past its only real hurdle. The House - just released for its August break - will reassemble for a vote to passage this coming Tuesday.
Understand that this piddly cannot save "tens of thousands of teacher and other public employees." On the surface, without any serious examination, we all know this summary statement is false. No one ever mentions this BUT administrative costs and fraud (i.e the reassignment of funds) will take more than 30% of the allocation. Secondly, another huge portion of the fund, if not all of the remainder, will go directly to union legacy programs. This Administration has done more to bolster private (auto) and public union legacy programs with public funds than any single administration in history. Nearly all of the Chrysler/GM funding ($80 billion) went to this purpose.
Understand that beginning with today, August 4, all the money spend between now and the end of the year is borrowed money - every penny. Those rascally Republicans are thinking, "we don't have any money. Let's at least make some cuts before sending this money on its way."
The Socialist Dems respond with, " Huh ???"
And that is the point of this post. -- jds
