Sen. John Kerry, who has repeatedly voted to raise taxes while in Congress, dodged a whopping six-figure state tax bill on his new multimillion-dollar yacht by mooring her in Newport, R.I.
Isabel - Kerry’s luxe, 76-foot New Zealand-built Friendship sloop with an Edwardian-style, glossy varnished teak interior, two VIP main cabins and a pilothouse fitted with a wet bar and cold wine storage - was designed by Rhode Island boat designer Ted Fontaine. READ MORE >>>
Editor's notes: the moral of this story is obvious - what is good for the goosed (pun intended), is not good for the gander. Just this morning, some in the public domain were asking whether the heirs of Yankee's owner George Steinbrenner should volunteer to pay taxes on their inheritance (valued at 1.3 billion dollars) as if George died after the first of the year, 2011. If Steinbrenner had died after the first of the year, his heirs would have received a bill for 55% of the worth of the New York Yankees -- a little over 6oo million in taxes. Instead, the tax bill is "zero."
Just as this news was being aired, the story [above] broke about Senator Lurch Kerry. This editor was a one time Democrat. His last major Democrat vote was for Jimmy Carter. At age 35, this editor voted for a Republican, for the first time, and that vote went to Ronald Reagan. What drove me away? Stories of Democrat hypocrisy such as the John Kerry story. "Tax the rich" was Kerry's battle cry. Ditto for Charlie, The Crook, Rangel.
And what is the legacy of these fat cat Democrat hypocrites? Lies, fraud and pretense.
Some will say, those of you who live on U St in Lincoln for example, that hypocrisy exists in every party. "Yes," we say, and "so what?" Folks who make this brain-dead argument never "go after" the offenders. They only use such arguments to justify their Party members. We do not do this, here at Midknight Review. If Charlie Rangel were Paul Ryan, we would be equally outraged. Let's not forget that Midknight Review is a part of the non-partisan Tea Party Movement. We are not registered with any political party. We only care about the return of the Nation to its original traditions. We hate race baiting and do not participate in such activity in spite of the fact that such appears on blogs found on our blog roll. This is a nation functioning under the principle of free speech. If offensive speech is unprotected, we are not free to speak our mind about much of anything. Neither do we believe in "hate speech" laws. Again, we have liable laws that can be used as solutions to injuries resulting from slander. In time, "hate speech" laws will be used to restrict free speech, even in our pulpits and that is the purpose of this kind of legislation. Hate speech laws have had the result we just described in countries such as Canada and France.
But we digress.
We are talking about hypocrisy within the ranks of those who tout class warfare. That is the point of this post and we have made our case. --- jds.
