Obama has talked about the "challenge" of speech that is both inaccurate [as determined by Obama] and harmful to the American political process. Such talk is nothing more than the Left framing a circumstance that leads to legislation against free political speech. Understand that the protections of the First
Amendment concerned themselves explicitly with the matter of protection for political speech. The chatter from this Administration on this matter is in DIRECT contradiction to the First Amendment.
A veiled threat against the First Amendment is found in a speech at Hampton University in May of this year:
" . . . . . . . Obama said at Hampton University, Virginia. . . . . .
“With iPods and iPads and Xboxes and PlayStations, — none of which I know how to work — information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation,” Obama said. He bemoaned the fact that “some of the craziest claims can quickly claim traction,” in the clamor of certain blogs and talk radio outlets. “All of this is not only putting new pressures on you, it is putting new pressures on our country and on our democracy.” PERMALINK
How wrong can a politician be ?? "All of this ... " is what freedom of speech is all about. It is a fact that only in America are "the craziest claims" protected and in that protection, free speech is secure. Canada, France, England, Mexico, and on and on, none of these great nations believe in free speech. --- jds.
