Obama calls for donations to be sent to Haiti:Good idea but send the money via faith based groups. Governmental supervision does not work - graft.

A suggestion: this editor intends to get on the phone, this morning, asking what his church group is doing to help and what he can do to move things along. If you are not associated with a church group, perhaps a call to the local mission or the Red Cross would be in order.

Haitian Earthquake News Summary
The Red Cross is reporting that its organization has already run out of medical supplies in Haiti. More supplies are on the way, of course, but it is not known when or how they will get to where they need to be.

Take 3 minutes to view this video - a series of photo's designed to tell the story of this tragedy

There are approximately 9 million citizens in Haiti. A full one third of them have been injured or killed in this ever increasing tragedy . . . . that's 3 million people injured and 30,000 [at the least] killed or missing. The temperature is in the 90's and thousands of bodies lie in the streets, under rubble and buried inside structure collapse. Very few of these people will be rescued in time to save their lives. Associated disease is the mounting issue.

Haiti, as you may know, is the poorest of countries in the North/South American collection of nations. Its only export is Rum. Haiti is a welfare/debtor nation with no economy. Its citizens live on $2,00 a day. Its government has been wiped out with this earthquake - more than 80% of the government's buildings are down including the Presidential Palace with its 2nd floor in collapse.

Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, has cancelled her trip to Asia and appears to be fully committed to the business of Haitian relief. Obama is busy trying to score points with his third announcement in the last 18 hours. He has promised $100 million in relief monies to be sent to Haiti. How much of that funding will actually trickle down to those who need it most is anyone's guess. No mention of God's will in all this or prayer -- separation of church and state, you know.

Pat Robertson (here we go again) has spoken out, as well. "This is all about God punishing Haiti for its pronounced wickedness" or words to that effect. Hmmmmmm. So if that is what has happened, why are Pat and associates trying to raise money and gather supplies to help the Haitian people? Would that not be an affront to God's will? Look, God possesses history much more often than he causes it. For Christians, there is a passage of scripture that is most important in this case. It is Romans 8:28. In most translations, it reads, "God works all thing for good to those who love him and his appearing." Understand that He works for all of creation - it is the disciple or believer who recognizes His assistance. He causes Supply (food, clothing, etc) for the "just and unjust" -- again, all of his creation. Robertson believes that, as well, in spite of his convoluted rhetoric.

As of 72 hours following the earthquake, no formal announcements have been forthcoming from Haitian governmental official giving rise to the notion that the Haitian government has been nearly destroyed in the quake.
