<<<< Yazidi faithful returning to safe haven from the mountains in North Iraq. First reports had 40,000 trapped. Now, it appears there were 60,000 to 70,000 trapped in the mountains; some 30,000 are still in hiding, hoping for an escort out of the grips of the Jihadist ISIS terror group.
From Sky News because the American press is giving this as
little a foot print as possible:
The UN
says up to 35,000 refugees have escaped Iraq ’s
Mount Sinjar and are “exhausted” and
“dehydrated”.
The
refugees, mostly from the minority Yazidi sect, managed to reach northern Iraq ’s Kurdistan region through Syria over the
past three days.
“The new
arrivals are exhausted, dehydrated and many have suffered sun or heat stroke,
with the daily temperatures reaching 40C to 45C,” said UNHCR spokesman Adrian Edwards.
He said
an estimated 20,000 to 30,000 people are still trapped on the mountain without
food or water.
UN
minority rights expert Rita Izsak warned they face “a mass atrocity and
potential genocide within days or hours”.
