Don't get me wrong. Trump is hardly Reagan-est, but we do have this quote as a matter of history: (Reagan on violent protesters} April 7, 1970: “If it takes a bloodbath,
let’s get it over with. No more appeasement.”
There is no question that when Trump opens up the possibility of members of the general assembly taking down and throwing out invading rioters, he invites some of the turmoil we have witnessed over the past week. The reality of all this, however, is found in the fact that his security teams and the police/Secret Service forces present at his rallies, are the ones who actually kept the peace and escorted the BLM anarchists back into the streets.
Reagan did not give permission to the general assembly. "We will fight back" for Reagan, meant, "we will follow the rules," even during those times that physical force must be used. Trump seems to allow for a free-for-all, bar room type response. Gots to be careful, here.
Some of you do not see the difference. In a bar fight, words are exchanged, sides are taken, someone throws a punch, and the good times roll !! In most cases (admittedly not all, however), when someone yells, "The cops are here," the fight ends and the foot race begins. Those who keep on fighting, are arrested by the cops, and peace is finally restored. The point being, those who are sworn to keep the peace, are the one's who finally bring things under control. Trump should appeal to that reality and not the fun of a bar room fight. Note: If you are a pointed head, a so-called "intellectual," an academic type, you don't get that many fights are just plain fun . . . . for some . . . . . in fact, a rather large minority. Look at the MMA and its sudden popularity, or the violent sport of football, or the challenging, in-your-face, competitions seen at every NASCAR event. "Nice" would kill each of these sports. At the same time, anarchy is not the preferred reality. MMA fighters tap out, players are fined, and NASCAR drivers usually stay in their cars . . . . take the rules and throw them away, and violent sport would vanish.
Why do you think we have a police force, if not to protect and prevent ? Soooo, Trump should be reminding his fans of the police presence in the assembly when he says, "Throw 'em out." He really is talking to his security team(s), not the general assembly, but he never makes that clearly understood. Mistake.
Having said that, the violence seen at the Trump rallies has nothing to do with the right of demonstration. The punks and thugs of the Left come for a fight. That is why they are there . . . period. Neither Bernie Sanders nor Hillary have taken to the podium to criticize BLM and friends for the kind of rioting protest that is practiced . . . . . and Obama, by his stark silence, encourages it. In fact, he has been playing that game throughout his tenure.
More than this, you NEVER see Trump supporters attempting to shutdown a Sanders or Hillary event. That never happens. So, you will excuse me, if I do not actually agree with the nonsense that all this is Trump's fault. His rhetoric is poorly chosen, but the national antagonists would be there, in his assemblies, no matter what he said. Take that to the bank. I mean, they will be at the national convention (the RNC), trying to shut it down, while our side of the aisle will simply watch the clown show at the DNC. Big, big difference between the two sides.
