Mission Statement: This blog reviews the news of the day in light of 242 years of American history. "Nationalism," a modern day pejorative, has been our country's politic throughout history, until 2008. Obama changed that narrative. Trump is seeking a return to our historical roots. Midknight Review supports this return to normality.
Before Netanyahu came to Congress, we had this explanation of the Iranian threat to Israel and the Middle East. In 4 minutes, you will understand what is happening.
Clearly, Obama believes that a bad deal is better than the military option to stop Iran's march for nuclear/regional dominance.
Hannity - a true conservative "intellectual" - product of a christian education, dropped out of college - twice.
"I immediately knew that it was NOT something that, for me in my particular role, was going to be constructive. I didn’t think it was going to further our efforts to get to a place where Congress would play the appropriate role that it should on Iran." - GOP SEN. Bob Corker
"The letter not appropriate or productive" - GOP SEN. Jeff Flake
“What’s the point in writing to the Iranian mullahs? They dismissed it already. You’ve offended the Obama administration and you may have offended some of the Democrats who would have come over with the Republicans depending on what happens with this deal, to have a stronger say in the Senate.” -- FOX NEWS Megyn Kelly interview with GOP SEN Senator Tom Cotton, the letter’s author.
"In our view this letter has no legal validity and is just a propaganda scheme," - Iran FM Mohammad Javad Zarif
“It’s somewhat ironic to see some members of Congress wanting to make common cause with the hardliners in Iran.” - President Obama
And, yet, we keep kicking your collective butt. In this case, in particular, 71% of the American people do not agree with what Obama is doing with Iran, or hoping to do. I mean, so far, after a year, we got nothing from the Kerry/Obama brain trust.
And it is not "common cause" that is being sought by the 47 GOP Senators. That is what Obama is seeking. I mean, isn't an agreement what he is after and, by definition, an agreement is "common cause." No wonder he does not release his educational transcripts.
Don't tell the Jews the only reason the GOP christians want to protect Israel so that it's around long enough for god to destroy the world so they get their 'second coming.' People need to understand that this is not so far fetched, this is the mentality of the many GOP christians that deny science because of religious beliefs, and they believe the predictions they read in the bible.
Says who? You? A man who has no clue as to evangelical Christianity. Certainly the liturgical church (Catholics, Lutherans, Methodist) does not believe such, in the vengeful way you imply. But I am not going to argue with a man who has no core belief for his sense of morality other than what he thinks he can get away with. The fact of the matter is this: many Christians give and help in spite of the fact that most American Jews are not friendly to Christianity. We Christians and most Americans, support Israel because it is the only democracy in the Middle East and they are our only true ally in the region.
The Second Coming is what God in Christ does. It has nothing to do with revenge and the event belongs to all of humanity.
You might want to just consider the possibility the Second Coming is what it IS... a BS story with no more validity than any other piece of historical fiction. What more could you say about the bible as it mentions the existence of unicorns and dragons? In considering the validity of religions, judaism predates christianity by 2000 yrs, so who's to say you're right and they're wrong?
BTW... do you believe in unicorns and dragons? Either you believe in the bible or not.
I am way past doubting my faith. The true translations for "unicorns" and "dragons" is not what you think they are, but how would you know since you are only a critic, not a student, of The Faith?
What I do know is this" "religion" is the only more justification for civility and morality, in our world, Without "religion," all you have is ordered chaos and anarchy . . . . nothing, absolutely nothing more.
Just as you cannot prove a postulate, the cornerstone(s) of all applied science, I cannot prove God. And it is a joke to pretend that hypocrisy does not exist, in all camps (religious, political, sports, or whatever).
" this religion" is the only more justification for civility and morality, in our world, Without "religion," all you have is ordered chaos and anarchy "
--- A seriously flawed way of thinking. The only way to civility, morality and order is through 'this religion.'
BTW ... you science deniers made the cover of National Geographic this month. It seems more of a problem among conservatives in the US than anywhere else in the industrialized world. You're right up there with the most primitive and least educated cultures in the world.
My quote should have read, "" . . . . . religion" is the only . . . . . . justification for civility and morality, in our world, Without "religion," all you have is ordered chaos and anarchy " That is what I intended. And I stand by it. You have no alternative for law and order and civility and morality, except that they sound reasonable. The cave men had no religion, if you believe the truth deniers. Hmmm, you have no religion, the cavemen had no religion . . . . . . kind of puts you in a rather low-rent intellectual district, for sure. And no one I know denies true science. There is a difference between consensus science and true, experimental science: the former sees "facts" as things intelligent men vote on, the latter knows that science is seldom if ever "settled" is never dependent on consensus - that would make science a politicial affair . . . . . . . . . ah . . . . . . . . . . . . wow, that is exactly what we have with climate science. Shazam !!!!
The least religious nations - Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Austria, Finland - are also the safest, least crime, the happiest, and enjoy an excellent standard of living. Compare to the most religious nations: Nigeria, Armenia, Macedonia, Romania, Kenya, Peru.... third world countries. Case closed.
Children are happiest when allowed to live by their own rules.
Perhaps you don't understand my point. Your rules, even if embarrassed by an entire nation, are your rules. You are your own authority. Force and manipulation are the only domestic tools you have to continue your personal moral inventions. You have nothing else. I would argue that the countries you named, practice their religious foundations, even while moving away from their given religious historicities. Certainly this is true for the United States.
Herein is the problem with post-modernism. Modernity gave us our emphasis on what I call, the "larger narratives" (the Constitution, States Rights, the Declaration of Independence, issues of faith, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, a demand for personal accountability, honesty in politics, the demand for an effective military, domestic systems that are fiscally sustainable, etc.). Post-modernism has given us only the shell of the larger realities: anecdotal/esoteric intuitions and claims, Utopian dreams, failed godless domestic governance theories such as radical Islam, Marxism as seen in Russia, or godless totalitarian regimes such as N Korea, Venezuela, Honduras, Cuba, and the wild corruption that is the Mexican government. Case closed.
America used to be great before evangelicals have dumbed down education and created a generation of failing science deniers... the vast majority of this ignorance is spread by religious schools.
Sadly, the people who need to read this issue or at least look at the cover don’t read National Geographic, and pretty much don’t care what scientists think.
None of the schools I attended refused experimental science . . . . none. So, once again, you know nothing of what you write. Good thing you have the internet or you would really be a dummy. Two of the best economies in American history were during the GOP years with Clinton as President, and the GW Bush years, up until the Dems took congress in 2007.
