Mission Statement: This blog reviews the news of the day in light of 242 years of American history. "Nationalism," a modern day pejorative, has been our country's politic throughout history, until 2008. Obama changed that narrative. Trump is seeking a return to our historical roots. Midknight Review supports this return to normality.
What do we KNOW about Obama's threat to pass "amnesty?"
<< "If you don't like things, try winning an election, John." Good advice, and, we did, and, we intend to make this election count for something.
Re Amnesty:
We know he is not talking about a "fix" that solves the immigration problem. He is only creating a mess.
We know that most of those benefited by his decision are already working, already drawing welfare at a number of levels, and already recipients of free healthcare via our nation's E.R. facilities.
We know that he has been making this threat for a number of years, but without taking action. In fact, he has missed a number of self-imposed deadlines.
This last fact, makes one believe Obama's empty words (to date) are more about drawing the GOP leadership into making serious mistakes as they object to Obama's stated (but fantasy?) plans. If you remember, he promised "comprehensive immigration before the end of my first year in office." That was a lie. The truth is found in the fact that he did not even try to get that promise done.
He also promised executive action as to amnesty before the 2012 elections. Didn't happen. So why THAT promise? Answer: he really had nothing else to office Hispanics but this tired, old promise.
Again, in 2014, he made the same promise - "amnesty before the end of the summer." Didn't happen.
More importantly, "impeachment" and "shutting down the government" didn't happen.
I say, let Obama go ahead and do what he has been threatening to do for years. The GOP need not get side-tracked. The voting public does not want more angst. They want things to get done. The GOP, after being sworn into the 114th Congress in January, needs to pass legislation and put it on Obama's desk and they need to do this over and over again. Further, they should use the very same bastardized rules "reformed" by Pelosi and (especially) Harry Reid over the past six years. Understand that I am not talking about "revenge." I am only talking about getting things done. And much of the legislative "change" as result of Democrat's autocratic rule, has made change and restoration all the more likely.
