Is it true that Reagan and Bush 43 used executive action in the same way Obama is doing?

The answer to our headlined question is "No."  Both men made executive decisions concerning legislation passed into law by their respective Congresses.

Obama is not dealing with approved legislation.  In fact,  that is his complaint  . . .  there is no legislation.  Rather than waiting for that to occur,  he has chosen to write his own legislation and proceed from there.  He is an administrator,  when it comes to law,  not a legislator.  His decision as to immigration via executive order,  gives him (or any other president) dictatorial powers never used,  before,  in our nation's histoy.

With that in mind,  he can cut deportations under existing law,  but he cannot write new law that allows work permits and Social Security numbers for non-citizens.  Again, Congress and "the president" dealt with the immigration issue under Reagan and Bush.  Obama has decided to "go it alone."

If he is allowed to go unchallenged, in this,  he or any other president,  will have precedent for writing new law,  and the "separation of powers" will have been effectively canceled.

And,  if you can't see the danger in this,  you are probably from Venezuela or Russian.
