Thoughts on the "Border Debate" and the baby in the bathwater.

I am not a big fan of Glenn Beck,  but I do believe in his humanitarian effort,  on display,  this weekend.  I just wish it wasn't "on display," but a quiet, civilian, function of humanity.

Still,  he is doing some good.  The Right - of which I identify myself - tends to get lost in the "border debate,"  arguing that Beck is "aiding and abetting" the enemy from within.

Understand this:  when we as a political entity,  reverse the focus of "people first,   then policy,"  we lose the national debate.  And,  it is not "fine" to lose on principle when such is not our only course of action.  They ARE here,  and need to be treated humanely.  I believe we all agree.  Let's not be tempted into making "them" the problem.  That is what the Left wants us to do.  It is not "the people,"  but the policies of our feckless leadership,  that has gotten us into this mess.  It makes no difference whether that is by design or stupidity  -  the fact remains that it is policy,  not people,  that is the problematic issue,  here.

What about the criminal element coming into this country,  not to mention a terrorist population?  To be sure,  those realities seriously complicate the problem,  but,  still,  thousands of these illegals are "none of the above,"  just folks seeing the benefits of America,  not caring about the rules,  only wanting to "get in on the deal."

The problem is our feckless policy.  "They" will follow the rules if we take the carrot stick of "amnesty" away.  So the debate is not about the people coming to our country,  but about amnesty and border security;  let's never lose sight of those issues.  When we reverse those two priorities,  when we make the people the issue,  we loose the debate   . . . .    and the baby gets thrown out with the bathwater.
