Michelle Obama goes to China without a press corp (pronounced "core" - Democrats). Why did she go? To make amends is one guess.

Search all you want,  you will not find a joint photo of Michelle Obama with China's First Lady,  in spite of the fact that China's First Couple came to this country,  in June of 2013.

First Ladies doing what Michelle refused to do last June.
She (Michelle) did not greet the darling from China when they (she and her husband) arrived in this country.  She did not attend any state functions or schedule even one photo shoot with Ping Liyuan.  In a word,  Michelle, furious over the American press's glowing reports of the incoming beauty,  gave the woman the "stiff arm" and decided to "do other things with her children" (Sasha's 12th birthday was more important than good relations with China).

This is what we - the U.S. - have for representation in the World,  two thinned skinned people who know best and hate any challenge to their sense of Aristocracy*, whether that be "another woman" or an opposing legislative opinion.

So, now,  M Obama is in China making amends.  Can't prove any of this,  except for the fact of the "stiff arm,"  of course.   Choose to believe what you will.  I choose to believe in the pettiness of our First Couple.

I leave the reader with these written opinions about "the debacle in June,"  from Chinese readers at Chinasmack.com:

Afraid of being shown-up, doesn’t dare show her face.

An expression of insecurity/lack of confidence, that’s all I can say.

Are family affairs are more important than national affairs? Unless they don’t take you seriously.

Obviously,  I am not the only one.
