There is a gun myth out there that holds up California as proof that gun law restrictions work.

Last week,  I took time to listen to a discussion (without gun advocate input) on CNN.  The point was made that California is the wave of the future when it comes to gun control legislation.  The argument is a simple one:  California has as restrictive a legislative agenda as exists in the country with virtually no on-campus via  gun violence.

You cannot know this, if you live on the East Coast or points east of California,  but the media keeps the real situation in California, hidden from the public eye.  The truth is quite different.  For example,  there were two school shootings in my state in the past 6 days;  one in Taft,  where one student was killed;  and the other at an unnamed school in L.A. County,  where the gunman was killed.  Neither were "mass" killings.  Both occurred in a state with adequate anti-gun restrictions. Update:  my wife was just released from jury duty.  The trial will deal with a young gangbanging black man who shot at a dozen of people,  in Fresno, killing one.   Also,  the Mexican Mafia has shot up the homes of our local mayor and the editor of the local newspaper.

I don't know how many schools in the state have a armed police presence on campus,  but I do know that all of the 14 area high schools in and around Fresno, California,   have a very visible presence including at least one squad car parked where all can see,  as they come to or pass by a school campus.

Understand that when I say "adequate . . . . . restrictions,"  I remind the reader of my gun collection which includes a short barrel pump action shotgun with a 5 shell capacity,  a Glock 19 with three 8 round clips,  and  a Ruger 10/22 takedown rifle with several 10 shell ammo clips,  all purchased here,  in California,  without any problem.  I had a waiting period for each gun complete with an application for each gun --  and two of the guns were purchased 4 days apart.  The Glock 9mm and the 10/22 are semi-automatics.  If you are a "regular" to this blog,  you know that my views on gun laws are not as hyper-conservatives as others.  The reason?  I live in California and have had to deal with gun restrictions,  for years.  So far, so good.  But there is a rash of new legislation coming from Sacramento and this state has super Democrat majorities in both of its state houses  --  that's why the state is flat broke and is running 17 businesses per month out of our region.
