Will keeping registered guns out of the hands of 21 year olds, help to solve the probem? Maybe, but then, maybe not . . . . some thoughts.

Update:  no matter what Congress agrees to do,  we will not be anymore safe.  And the fiscal cliff?  They will not solve that problem,  either.  Presidential/congressional "leadership" in this country is less than a joke.  It is all about the "blah, blah, blah," and nothing more.  Its kind of tough for an editor to find any real news,  these days.

From The Hill:  “While Jackson Lee said she would not take guns away from people, she noted that she is the sponsor of legislation, H.R. 227. That bill would raise the eligibility to carry a handgun from 18 to 21 and ban people under 21 from possessing semiautomatic assault weapons.”

Editor’s notes:

First thoughts:
if you are a “regular” to this blog,  and 48,000  out of 112,000 of you are,  you know what I think of Sheila Jackson Lee.  But whatever,  her proposed legislation,  above,  is something that I fully and enthusiastically support.  In fact,  I am fine with raising the age for the ownership of any weapon with self-loading potential (i.e. a gun clip) to 26 years of age.  I don’t care about the concealed carry part of the legislation. That has never been a part of the problem.  I don’t think any of these killers had a carry permit.
Of course,  probably none of these killers bought their weapons,  either.  So,  maybe,  this kind of legislation will do nothing,  since it does not address the problem at any level, no?

On Second thought:
Dang.  It sure sounded good at first glance and Sheila Jackson really is trying to do the right thing,  in this case.
Look,  in the end,  we simply have to change the culture (violent videos, etc.) and keep these people from getting into our schools.
Try getting into a county library.  The windows are well off the ground,  in many cases,  and metal detectors are at ever entrance.
In the end,  there are no quick fixes,  but we do need to make some very real systemic (read “existential”) changes.
